About The Roll*

• Lead research efforts for Toast hardware products, driving measurable outcomes for the both users and the business
• Work on both new hardware programs and device software experiences
• Work as part of a team of Product Designers, Industrial Designers, and User Researchers to deliver hardware experiences that are intuitive, efficient, and delightful
• Work closely with partners in Design, Product Management, and Engineering across multiple teams at Toast to rapidly learn how best to improve customer experiences
• Serve as the research subject matter expert for hardware research and enable the team with tools and best practices to build continuous learning into the rhythm of all hardware projects
• Use data analysis to help identify opportunities and validate improvements

The right ingredients* (Requirements)

• 5+ years of professional experience conducting applied product research
• Experience working across the entirety of the product lifecycle, from front-end concept development to ongoing experience improvements
• Experience with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies: front-end generative research, evaluative research and testing (remote, in-field, and unmoderated, surveys), and developing insights from data
• Experience leading through complexity and working with cross-functional teams to drive decisions
• Ability to identify the most efficient research methods for rapid and continuous learning
• Strong ability to prioritize tasks, projects, and initiatives with many partner teams
• Strong storytelling skills and the ability to share work to all levels of the organization
• Ability to build research infrastructure, defining processes and best practices
• Experience conducting research for highly complex B2B customer experiences
• Experience with unmoderated testing tools (ex. UserTesting) & survey tools (ex. Qualtrics)
• Ability to deliver clear data visualizations
• Experience with data analysis methods and tools such as Sigma, Splunk, Hex, SQL, R, Python

• Professional experience with highly complex hardware and software systems
• Degree in Design, Computer Science, Statistics, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Anthropology, Psychology, or a related field
