Core Responsibilities

  • To lead change and be a capability builder bringing technical knowledge to the Procurement teams for data driven negotiations through the use of Cost Engineering data in the relevant categories that determine fair and reasonable pricing

  • Apply manufacturing knowledge of manufacturing process steps in the creation of Should Costs with a focus on Packaging operations.

  • Independently gather data to create and deliver Should Cost estimates on boxes and packing operations considering raw materials, labor, equipment, tooling, for estimations

  • To carry out market index analysis for paper/pulp raw materials comparing to the calculation models that you will deliver and that that also allows for parametric forecasting of future costs

  • To hold workshops and with suppliers on cost and carbon idea generation using Should Cost data to identify major cost drivers and areas of waste/ opportunity

  • To support in the development of a Should Cost calculation methodology for the LEGO Group with an understanding of IT system requirements and the “make-up” of a Should Cost

  • Ability to calculate logistics costs for total landed costs is desirable

  • To be the voice of value of money for the packaging and packing categories from negotiation with existing suppliers to identifying design improvements on new moulds

  • Support global and regional category managers in supplier negotiations

  • A strong communicator with exceptional stakeholder management skills bringing cross functions together to realize further cost savings from the data created

Cost Engineering is a key department within Global Procurement. It is primarily focused on the development of ground up Should Cost calculations to support Procurement in identifying cost opportunities ultimately ensuring value for money is achieved. The department also has a key role in improving the cost capability of buyers. The department is the technical side of the Procurement function, is data driven, and its insights also provide cost data for financial forecasting and product development choices.

You will be part of the Cost Engineering team building up our cost calculation methodology and policy to create a winning formula that supports colleagues across the business. You will work closely with the Procurement team for Packaging to build up extensive cost knowledge and opportunity within the category. This will help the teams build up their understand of the cost structures for different types of boxes both retail and for logistics in many different countries. You will develop Should Cost models for packaging and be involved in negotiations working closely with suppliers to agree cost structures and identify cost opportunities while maintaining relationships.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Engineering & Costing Expertise: Strong background in engineering/manufacturing with proven experience in cost estimation, including finance and supply chain, to develop accurate Should Cost analyses.

  • Production Process Knowledge: Extensive experience with production processes, including the impact of volume and location on packaging and packing costs.

  • Market Index & Cost Calculation: Deep understanding of market indices and experience incorporating market rates into cost models for accurate pricing forecasts.

  • Analytical & Cost Estimation Skills: Strong analytical capabilities and expertise in Cost Estimating principles to drive successful data generation and supplier negotiations.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and self-confidence, with a collaborative approach to engaging stakeholders.

  • Opportunity Identification: Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities both from production lines and Should Cost data, presenting insights clearly and persuasively.

  • Travel Expectation: Up to 10% annually.
