Upstream USA works to expand opportunity by reducing unplanned pregnancy across the U.S. We work in partnership with health centers to strengthen reproductive care and autonomy by increasing equitable access to the full range of contraceptive options. Founded in 2014, Upstream is on track to achieve nationwide impact at scale. Our goal through 2024 is to partner with health centers that serve over 1 million women across four states. This ambitious plan for growth has received generous support from philanthropic individuals and foundations, including a $60 million lead investment by Blue Meridian Partners. Our unique approach has been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, the Atlantic, CNN, Vox, and Marie Claire. Following our first statewide intervention in Delaware, a leading national research center estimates a 24% decrease in unplanned pregnancies among Title X patients between 2014 and 2017. Patient surveys conducted at our partner healthcare centers affirm that Upstream-trained providers are empowering patients to make their own decisions about their contraceptive care.
Joon Care is a teletherapy practice that provides high-quality and accessible mental health care to youth and young adults ages 13-24. We combine the benefits of one-on-one therapy with a convenient, app-based experience. Our unique approach leverages technology to make high-quality, evidence-based therapy more accessible and more engaging for teens and young adults. Our clients get the best of traditional therapy - live sessions with a dedicated and qualified therapist - but on their terms, using the mobile platforms they're most familiar with, and with tools to help them build skills and make change in their lives. Most importantly, it’s working. Our clients are, on average, reporting less anxiety and depression across their course of treatment with Joon. There are over 50 million teens and young adults between the ages of 13 and 24 in the United States and, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately half experience anxiety, depression or other mental health disorders during these years. Moreover, according to the CDC, the mental health burden this age group faces is so high that suicide is now the second-leading cause of death among teens and young adults. The need has never been greater, and we are determined to provide a solution.

DESC works to end the homelessness of vulnerable people, particularly those living with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders. Through partnerships and an integrated array of comprehensive services, treatment and housing, we give people the opportunity to reach their highest potential. DESC is the largest multi-service agency serving homeless adults in the Pacific Northwest, reaching over 9,000 people annually with an array of state-licensed mental health and substance abuse treatment programs—including street outreach and engagement, crisis diversion and respite, case management, short-term and ongoing care, psychiatric assessment and treatment, supported employment, individual and group substance abuse counseling, 468 emergency shelter beds, and over 1,100 units of permanent supportive housing. DESC adheres to the Housing First philosophy, the belief that housing is a basic human right, not a reward for clinical success and once the chaos of homelessness is eliminated from a person's life, clinical and social stabilization occur faster and are more enduring. DESC's innovative programs have earned recognition regionally and nationally. Every day at DESC we see what innovative clinical care and supportive housing can do: people who have been homeless for years regain their health, their dignity and their humanity. They reconnect with parents, children, brothers, sisters. They make friends, rediscover interests, and find work or other meaningful activity. And when they recover their lives, the quality of life is improved for all of us. Our community becomes a better place in which to live and work.
