The Role
Stanley Black & Decker (NYSE: SWK) is seeking a strategic, innovative and results-oriented Vice President, Vice President, Commercial Field Sales to drive the growth and direction for our Commercial Construction vertical across the United States. This position will oversee Regional Vice Presidents and Directors in the Commercial Field, Strategic National Accounts and MEP space - each managing their respective regions and accounts and will be instrumental in shaping and executing the Commercial Construction sales strategy. The VP will ensure alignment with corporate objectives, foster a high-performance sales culture, and build strong relationships with key stakeholders, including distributors, contractor s and trade unions.
Reporting to the President for US Commercial & Industrial, this position can be based in a number of East Coast locations, with a preference for Towson, Maryland.
Primary Accountabilities
The Vice President, US Commercial Field Sales will lead a complex, 250-person sales organization, made up of field sales (partnering directly with end-users, contractors and trade schools) as well as our key distribution partners. This inspirational leader will be the external face of Stanley Black & Decker to our construction end users and distribution partners and internally, will nurture and develop a high performing sales team.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy for the US Commercial Field that aligns with the company's overall business objectives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to set ambitious sales targets and ensure the achievement of top-line revenue goals.
- Lead the development of national sales programs and initiatives to drive market penetration and brand preference for Stanley Black & Decker products and services.
Sales Management
- Oversee the performance of a complex field organization, including Regional Vice Presidents, Strategic National Accounts Director, and MEP Director, ensuring they meet or exceed their regional and national sales targets.
- Monitor and analyze sales metrics to identify opportunities for growth and areas for improvement.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with product marketing, channel management, finance, HR, and field engineering teams to support sales objectives.
Business Development
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key national accounts, including large general contractors, distributors, and trade associations.
- Drive the activation of national channel and brand marketing strategies in the field.
- Provide competitive intelligence and market insights to inform strategic decision-making.
People Leadership
- Build and nurture a high-performing sales leadership team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and develop direct reports, providing guidance on strategic planning, performance management, and talent development.
- Champion the Performance Enablement Process (PEP) to identify and develop future leaders within the organization.
Operational Excellence
- Ensure the effective use of Salesforce.com and other business systems to track sales performance and key deliverables.
- Manage national SG&A and promotional budgets, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize ROI.
- Oversee event execution, planning, and forecasting to support sales initiatives.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented, collaborative executive who embraces innovation and bold thinking for Stanley Black & Decker.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management or a related field; relevant construction field experience may substitute for higher education.
- Minimum of 15 years of sales or distribution sales experience, with at least 5 years in a senior managerial role, supporting similar customers across multiple geographies. Distribution sales experience is strongly preferred.
- Impeccable people leadership capabilities, with strong desire to engage and develop high performing geographically dispersed teams.
- Proven track record of successful revenue and profit generation, with experience selling to high-level executives and C-Suite.
- Strong ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Excellent financial acumen and experience in building and executing budgets.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and CRM tools such as Salesforce.com.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time nationally.
