ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provide guidance to upholsters so that parts and/or products are manufactured according to standardized work.
Coordinate day-to-day department operation activities for employees and temporaries, including shift work planning, line staffing and making job assignments.
Coordinate the integration of new employees into the team to include making job assignments, job training, safety and quality training, etc.
Commits to meeting overtime requirements.
Communicate daily team and individual performance information to the work team leader; may recommend disciplinary action.
Completes required paperwork correctly to ensure record accuracy.
Inspect parts during the upholstery process to assure compliance to established quality criteria.
Knows and practices corporate, plant, and department safety guidelines.
Maintains a clean, safe working environment according to 5s and department safety guidelines.
Maintains flexibility to meet team, department, and plant goals.
May provide back-up support for Work Team Leader.
Monitor safety practices and quality initiatives of individuals.
Participates in improvement activities within current department or other departments as appropriate.
Provides feedback when applicable to other departments and management on improvements to the process.
Understands and practices quality requirements according to specified quality criteria.
Upholsters any and all of the products in the Geiger catalogue.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
  
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience
One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency
15 + years of experience in upholstery
3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
 
Skills and Abilities
Must have advanced upholstery skills with the ability to do all styles of upholstery.
Competent in basic math skills, such as adding and subtracting.
Ability to read, understand, communicate, and interpret written and verbal instructions, work documentation, policies and practices, etc., which are written in the English language.
Ability to work cooperatively within the team as well as with members of other teams to meet goals.
Demonstrated willingness to adapt to a continually changing environment.
Demonstrated commitment to team success through reliable attendance.
Flexibility to work assignments and possible hours as business needs require.
Proficient in upholstery techniques.
Ability to express ideas verbally and written effectively with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated professionalism.
Demonstrated success in some type of leadership role.
Proven ability to resolve conflict in a team environment.
Good planning and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use office automation/communication software and tools currently being used in the office environment.

Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

Ability to bend, twist, and stand for periods of up to 10 or 12 hours.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
