We are looking for a Tax Analyst with 3-5 years of experience to join our innovative Federal Compliance team! In this exciting role, you'll blend your tax knowledge with cutting-edge technology to tackle complex federal tax returns for a leading insurance commercial property and casualty organization.
The Tax Analyst plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Tax Division, with opportunities to present to Tax Leadership. In this role, you will collaborate on identifying, implementing and owning automated technology solutions for improved operational outcomes, supporting tax data and analytics.
This Tax Analyst role will support all aspects of the income tax life cycle, including the preparation of consolidated federal and proforma income tax returns, quarterly financial statement tax provisions, support of state tax return compliance and other tax processes supporting federal filings. The ideal candidate will have the general knowledge and expertise to support areas of tax research, taxing authority examinations, and return-to-provision calculations with a moderate level of direction and guidance.
This hybrid position is located at our headquarters in downtown Chicago.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in the completion of the consolidated Federal Corporate Income Tax Returns, including preparing pro-forma returns within Corptax software, calculating book to tax differences and estimated tax calculations, and supporting tax analytics.
- Coordinate tax compliance activities with the management of limited partnership investments, including usage and administration of limited partnership K-1 software.
- Participate in the administration and execution of U.S. federal software in support of tax compliance responsibilities.
- Support the income tax accounting and reporting for the quarterly and annual financial statement filings, including utilizing software to calculate tax provisions.
- Perform other tax life-cycle processes by supporting the preparation of other federal and state compliance filing requirements.
- Support or prepare research of tax technical issues and help present interpretations to Tax Leadership.
- Provide fresh perspective on tax processes and identify potential improvements, including the use of tax technology and automation, where applicable.
- Support tax technology initiatives focused on the development and enhancement of processes.
- Collaborate with Tax Division peers to address tax issues and meet organizational objectives.
- Stay abreast of technical developments with the US taxation of domestic corporations including provisions specific to the insurance industry.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Working knowledge of C Corporation taxation in general, including experience with recently enacted tax legislation. Exposure to insurance taxation is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, ASC 740. Exposure to Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles, SSAP 101, is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Curious mindset, willingness to explore and ask questions.
- Robust tax research skills.
- Technology focused and proficient in Microsoft Excel, Power Query and other M365 applications, automating processes and analyzing large data sets. Familiarity with Corptax software, and Workday for Finance also preferred.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Results oriented with the ability to problem solve and work independently and/or in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting. Master of Science in Taxation degree is a plus.
- Certified Public Accountant designation preferred or in progress.
- Minimum 3-5 years of public or corporate tax experience. Exposure to Insurance Industry is a plus.

I n certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia , California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois , Maryland , Massachusetts , New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $54,000 to $103,000 annually.Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
