Watts is looking for a part-time (1 day in office, 1 day remote) Sustainability Engineering Intern. This intern will help research, analyze, and propose strategies to help the Fort Worth facility achieve zero waste. Under the guidance of the Value Stream Manager, and working with the facility team, you will focus on identifying waste streams, quantifying waste, and proposing cutting-edge methods for waste diversion, recycling, and reuse.

What You'll Do

  • Research industry best practices for zero waste strategies, focusing on reduce, reuse, recycle initiatives.

  • Explore emerging standards, certifications, and cutting-edge methods in waste reduction and diversion.

  • Analyze waste streams at the Fort Worth location, including identifying vendors and current disposal practices.

  • Propose strategies to divert waste from landfills, considering cost, emissions, and vendor partnerships.

  • Develop comprehensive communication, tracking, and reporting plans for waste management and reduction.

  • Create financial analysis and projections of the benefits and costs of implementing zero waste strategies.

  • Conduct multiple onsite visits to collect data and engage with facility teams.

  • Deliver a detailed report on your findings, including a program plan with actionable steps, financial implications, and projected benefits.

Who You Are

  • Current Sophomore or Junior pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical field (science, engineering, math, etc.).

  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Ability to be onsite at the Fort Worth location at least three days per week.

The expected salary range for this position is $21 - $23 hourly. Actual compensation will be dependent upon individual skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable laws.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

Work in both office and manufacturing environment. May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting.
