Job Description
Summary
Senior Manager, GHG Reporting & Solutions will be accountable for the delivery of Pilot’s GHG emissions accounting framework, data collection/management, internal reporting, and assurance processes. This role will advise Pilot’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) on issues related to GHG accounting, regulatory developments, and act as the Pilot Company subject matter expert for the space. This position will have the opportunity to leverage Pilot’s innovative and fast-paced culture to quickly make a material impact for the Pilot family of companies and its diverse customer base.
Essential Functions
- Oversee calculation of Pilot’s annual carbon footprint, automation of emissions data collection and analysis, and 3rd party assurance against prevailing standards (e.g., Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Science-Base Target Initiative SBTi), etc.)
- Develop data analytics in annual footprint data collection and analysis
- Identify and evaluate carbon accounting best practices, updated methods, and the latest emission factors from acceptable and external sources.
- Be responsible for the collection, storage, and management of energy spend and vendor data from across the company and suppliers.
- Quantify and present both Pilot’s and its customers’ annual carbon footprint and related analyses to support GHG reductions strategies and stakeholder engagement.
- Qualify M&A activities to be folded into footprint or those that may trigger re-baselining.
- Help evaluate/advise customers around their stated public commitments to reduce GHG emissions and work collaboratively with them to develop decarbonization plans.
- Work across the energy, fuel, and retail industries to further educate and embed carbon accounting and assurance techniques into corporate practice.
- Stay apprised with external guidance and industry best practices in boundaries for Scope 3.
- Continue implementation of enterprise carbon accounting software to automate carbon footprint data collection and analysis.
- Support the set-up of software to enable emissions reductions forecasting and tracking.
- Guide improvement of methods and processes needed to streamline the collection, storage, and verification of footprint data.
- Seek ways to improve data structuring and refreshing.
- Drive improvement of internal processes, controls, and governance related to carbon footprint data.
- Assist in obtaining assurance from 3rd party auditors for the carbon footprint, reductions, and decarbonization roadmap.
- Ensure alignment with GHG Protocol, SBTi and other relevant accounting and disclosure standards that emerge (e.g., ISO, ISSB).
- Interact, as needed, with cross-company teams composed of in-house staff, technical consultants, auditors, and software vendors..
- Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level.
- Ensure all activities are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Complete other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Studies, Economics, Sustainability, Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or General) or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years practical experience in greenhouse gas accounting, methods, data collection and management, data integrity controls, disclosure, and verification.
- 5+ years of managerial experience (for an energy or fuels company preferred).
- Experience designing and/or implementing carbon accounting software.
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing fast-paced projects with multiple stakeholder across cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with sustainability-related disclosure standards, data controls, or third-party assurance processes.
Specialized Knowledge
- Experience in GHG emissions accounting.
- Federal or commercial sustainability experience preferred.
- Understanding of data management, environmental reporting, and data integrity.
- Experience with greenhouse gas accounting software and tools is ideal.

Travel
- Travel required, varies but likely less than 5%
