This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
The Senior Controls Applications Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting automation execution teams and plants in resolving technical issues, providing technical direction, and creating and maintaining common processes and procedures for automation.
This role also focuses on driving continuous improvement. The work is conducted within a centralized manufacturing engineering environment or assembly/plant setting, requiring significant creativity, initiative, and independent judgment. Responsibilities include the development, testing, and piloting of advanced process technologies.
What You'll Do
- Cross Regional & Global Center coordination
- Provide applications support as required with a focus on next generation Error Proofing systems.
- Respond to systemic issues affecting current production
- Provide feedback to the global controls standards team and drive continuous improvement to standards
- Collaborate with the Global standards team on new developments
- Develop control system designs for NA applications with any required training/documentation. Supervise additional resources as required.
- Deep integration with multiple center's processes and equipment
- Provide current operations support
- Provide support for Safety Systems / Standards / Solutions
- Drive common execution across all projects/programs (participate in the tech summit rollouts, facilitate the sharing of lessons learned and maintain standardized work.
- Create/maintain execution processes and procedures
- Required to provide afterhours critical downtime support as required
- Provide mentoring and coaching for students and new hires
- Support the technical development of our suppliers
- Perform layered Audits on projects at key milestone dates to ensure compliance to standards
- Actively gather and drive closure of lessons learned
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years of experience in controls and automation within a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Strong technical expertise in electrical and control systems, with the ability to effectively apply these concepts in a manufacturing setting.
- Extensive experience in PLC and HMI programming, as well as proficiency in EPLAN, Ethernet, and/or DeviceNet networks.
- Prior experience across various disciplines, such as general assembly and body shop operations.
- Ability to design and troubleshoot control systems, both hardware and software.
- Proven track record of managing multiple challenging projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results.
- Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to mentor and teach others.
- Experience in leading multiple manufacturing controls assignments with a record of successful individual achievements
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- 2+ years of plant job assignments
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of plant floor operations and product design manufacturability.
- Experience collaborating with global teams from various regions to successfully complete projects.
- Prior experience working with and applying GCCH, GCCS, and GCCB methodologies.
- Knowledgeable in current GM Error Proofing systems, including SEP, EPP, and FACS.
