Job Description
Job Purpose:
Setup and Maintenance of the firms UNIX/Linux infrastructure
UNIX/Linux second level helpdesk including troubleshooting problems
Providing 1st line support for EU users alongside other IT members in the EU timezone.
Principal Accountabilities:
Management of all UNIX systems and services worldwide
Monitoring of Worldwide Linux systems for stability and performance
Trouble shoot and provide local support for end users
Recommend and implement root cause fixes for common issues.
Maintain internal user guides, guidance notes and technical documents
1st Level Windows client/server support as required in exceptional cases
On call/standby work during scheduled out of hours IT upgrades
Behave in a professional and creditable manner; communicate issues through the Manager.
Provide weekly reports to the Manager
Mentoring of junior team members
Key Performance Measures:
Support performance / turnaround on resolution of critical incidents
Performance on Project & task management
Ability to run a project/task with minimal input from others.
Can work with external/internal resources to achieve a goal.
Qualifications
5 - 7+ yrs Administration as UNIX Sys Admin, technical degree in IT
Redhat RHCE certified is a benefit
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Excellent English speaking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills– ability to convey technical information to non technical users successfully.
Excellent knowledge of Redhat 7,8,9 and Ubuntu 14,16,18, or similar in an enterprise environment
Detailed knowledge of Nagios or similar system monitoring products Excellent knowledge of configuration management systems e.g. Puppet or similar Detailed knowledge of version control systems GIT/SVN/RCS
Detailed knowledge of the following file systems: NFS v3/4,ext3, ext 4, zfs
Detailed knowledge of networking, including wifi, routers, switches, VPN. Desired knowledge of Iptables/FirewallD, DNS/DHCP, Infoblox experience would be a benefit. Desired knowledge of Solaris 8,10 SPARC in an enterprise environment Desired knowledge of remote desktop solutions, Opentext ETX, NX client, VNC Desired knowledge of Windows client and server software
Desired knowledge of NetApp products (FAS 20xx) and ONTAP O/S
Desired knowledge of Windows client and server software
Ability to mentor and guide other team members on complex technical items.

- Interfacing with engineering directors to understand their department’s needs
