We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to help design, implement, and maintain a modern enterprise-level computing infrastructure to ensure a reliable, secure, and highly available environment for CyrusOne corporate users. This is a hybrid environment with On Prem, Public Cloud, SAAS application, and Private Cloud environments. The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of system engineers and IT Staff to provide this service, troubleshoot problems, and implement solutions. The engineer also assists with platform and application monitoring and backups.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain hardware and software for enterprise level Linux and Windows computing (both virtualized and physical systems) and coordinate all aspects of maintenance, working with other members of the CyrusOne IT community as required, to ensure availability.
- Develop and train team members
- Develop and maintain our Azure environment and Azure services. Propose new services where they meet a need. Propose and develop new technologies and workflows to better operate our environment.
- Provide technical support and serve as an escalation point to resolve system and/or application issues and monitor, resolve and/or coordinate the resolution of escalated trouble tickets.
- Perform general server administration duties including installing, configuring, and testing servers, applying appropriate service packs and hot fixes, automating operational procedures, performing maintenance of user accounts and system security policies, creating, and updating documentation, creating, and implementing monitoring systems, implementing daily backup procedures, and executing recovery procedures when necessary. This will include the physical installation of server, storage, and network equipment in construction, datacenter, and general office environments.
- Respond to emergencies or outages as needed; schedule maintenance when appropriate; recommend modifications to systems or services, including upgrades, additions, or deletions and provide analysis and justification for recommendation, which may include operational data, feasibility, technological motivations, customer demand or need. The successful candidate will be part of an On-Call rotation.
- Develop and/or contribute to and review user-related documentation on IT services, support standards and security policies as developed by technical support staff; assist with the preparation and maintenance of documentation for system operations, services, policies, and backup/recovery procedures.
- Serve as application administrator for a subset of the enterprise applications inventory, providing installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, and liaising with software vendors and stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of appropriate hardware and software news and features. Maintain and further knowledge of hardware and operating system deployment standards and best practices via self-directed research and training.
Qualifications:
- 4 years of experience in systems administration or related field (data center environment preferred)
- Experience on Cloud Computing and Virtualization
- Ability to install Operating System on Servers and Devices
- Ability to manage project work, and report results in a clear way
- Experience in managing storage environments, implementing, and managing NAS devices
- Hands on experience performing lifecycle management on servers and storage including install, refresh, decommissioning of hardware. Patching Operating Systems, Applications, and Firmware.
- Hands-on experience using one or more configuration management systems such as Salt, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet and other supporting technologies such as Terraform and Packer.
- Experience using IT environment monitoring applications and protocols (Nagios, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor WMI/DCOM polling, SNMP.)
- Experience using backup products to produce high quality backups and restores (tar, Netbackup, Veeam).
- Working knowledge of migration, integration, and support of Microsoft O365 cloud services including but not limited to – MFA, AD Premium, SSO, email, security center, and others.
- Working knowledge of security vulnerability remediation.
- Proficiency with Scripting and automation (Powershell, PowerCLI, Python, Batch, Bash)
- Good Experience on Windows Server Admin, AD, DNS, Group Policy
- Working knowledge on Microsoft SQL (Installation and user management
- Experience in troubleshooting common server applications such as DNS, Mail, package managers, etc.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP Networking and Cloud IT Security concepts. Understand DNS, SSL/ TLS, and how traffic on IP networks establishes end-to-end security and trust. Install, Renew, and manage SSL Certificates on Windows and Linux.
- Excellent Troubleshooting Skills (Hardware, OS)
- Work Experience in using iLO/DRAC/KVMoIP
- Experience provisioning Windows, Linux, Vmware ESXi servers on bare metal, Vmware, or Azure environments.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent time management, communication, project management, decision making, presentation and organizational skills
Education/Certifications:
- Associates degree in Computer or Information Science or related field; or equivalent work experience
- MCP, MCSE, MCSA, Azure, VMware, or Linux certifications are a plus
Work Environment:
- General office and data center environment. May involve lifting (up to 60 lbs.). Exposure to a climate-controlled environment for extended periods of time. On occasion installation of technology assets in a construction environment.
- Candidate will be part of an On-Call rotation.
