Job Description

You: A paralegal with a penchant for the planet, who loves litigation, conquering complex disputes, and thrives knowing every day brings a new puzzle to solve.

Us: An eleven-person legal team helping North America’s leading energy efficiency consulting firm. CLEAResult Consulting helps people save hundreds of millions on energy bills and removes over 2 million metric tons of CO2 emissions from the plant every year.

The Senior Paralegal position will primarily support our Canadian counsel and U.S.-based litigation and disputes team, while also assisting our other attorneys and legal support staff in the U.S. and Canada with a variety of work including compliance, data security, real estate, and contract management.

Our ideal candidate has an eye for detail, works independently, takes initiative, is tech savvy, service-oriented, self-aware with high “EQ,” and skilled at triaging a constant flow of competing priorities while ensuring everyone stays focused and on track. We need a true team player willing to take on any task to help our legal team, and our energy efficiency experts all over North America, who are changing the way people use energy. The role requires flexibility, endurance, and the ability to perform legal gymnastics, whether the routine requires tracking incoming matters and invoices, creating presentations, performing ESI searches, or drafting investigation memorandums.

CLEAResult is a remote-first workplace, however, the Senior Paralegal should expect to be required to attend regular in-person meetings with their local teammates.

Scope of responsibilities:

  • Assist with fact-gathering, witness interviews, internal investigations, and discovery

  • Review and revise litigation documents such as demand letters, discovery requests and responses, pleadings, motions, and contracts

  • Supervise collection and review of large amounts of material generated by litigation, using both internal systems as well as e-discovery platforms

  • Supervise fact-finding, data collection, and initial analysis used to prepare statements and arguments

  • Organize and maintain discovery files, prepare deposition materials, exhibit summaries, and materials for experts

  • Prepare, review, and revise a wide range of employment-related documents, including but not limited to corporate employment policies, employee hiring, and separation materials

  • Partner with human resource professionals regarding employment disputes and investigations

  • Research local, state, and national employment, health, and safety laws

  • Lead business processes such as insurance and small claims recovery

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Required attributes:

  • 7-10+ years of paralegal experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Expert legal research and court docket navigation skills

  • Experience in implementing and using legal technology tools

  • Significant experience with witness interviews, creating investigation reports, deposition summaries, and case analysis

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to prioritize, and time management skills

  • Ability to communicate complex information across all levels of the organization

  • Expertise with file management, indexes, templating, and document management systems

  • Fluency with common software/apps, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat

  • Experience with Logikcull, Everlaw, Relativity, or comparable e-discovery software

  • Meet the requirements for a public notary (and virtual certification), if not currently a notary

  • Sound work ethic and commitment to confidentiality and attention to detail

  • An enthusiastic, cheerful attitude, a love for learning, and a passion for anything not related to work

Preferred attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification

  • Familiarity with SharePoint, Workday, DocuSign, Power BI, or Salesforce

  • Experience in insurance recovery

  • Knowledge of the energy efficiency industry

  • Customer service experience in any industry
