About Shelter Solutions R&D
Shelter Solutions Research & Development, located in the EMEA region and specifically in Luxembourg, is comprised of a highly skilled team dedicated to advancing Product, Process, and Application Development. Our extensive laboratory facilities facilitate research initiatives that span from the initial proof of concept to the pre-production scale-up phase. This multidisciplinary team is composed of adept professionals who possess a broad spectrum of expertise in various domains, including material science, nonwoven technology, rigorous testing methodologies, process optimization, construction knowledge, and adherence to regulatory compliance, among other critical areas.
About Role
Responsible / Essential Functions:
In this role, you will be assigned two to three projects with defined deliverables. The projects are often in support of a new product development, where you will be part of a larger cross-functional team. For all projects, you will work closely with a mentoring engineer/scientist who will help you design test plans, oversee testing execution and guide data analysis. You will engage in a spectrum of routine responsibilities within the laboratory, including sample preparation and thorough testing. You will provide project-specific testing support aligned with established standardized methodologies and/or guidelines set forth by the lead researcher. You will be expected to interpret the data collected in relation to the various projects and present your findings in a clear and coherent manner. The ideal candidate will exemplify strong interpersonal skills, alongside the capacity to communicate their work and results with clarity and effectiveness.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Actively participate in laboratory housekeeping and proper care of testing equipment to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the laboratory environment.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Demonstrate the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge across various facets of the role, including sample preparation, testing methodologies, data reporting, and assessment protocols.
- Execute formulations by accurately mixing, batching, and sampling chemicals within the laboratory setting, while mastering the safe and effective use of all relevant equipment in these processes.
- Acquire proficiency in conducting small-scale flammability tests and various standard analytical tests, such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).
- Systematically collect and compile data from testing procedures, ensuring the ability to meticulously review the data and identify significant trends or noteworthy observations for the lead researcher.
- Produce comprehensive data reports utilizing Microsoft Word; PowerPoint and Excel, ensuring clarity and precision in presenting findings.
- Engage in the analysis and interpretation of gathered data in the context of the respective projects, presenting results in an articulate manner to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with team members to foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning, contributing to the development of new methodologies and improvements in laboratory practices.
- Exhibit a strong self-driven approach and demonstrate the capability to swiftly learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges, ensuring effective performance in a dynamic application development team.
Qualifications:
Must have:
- Pursuing a Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry bachelor’s degree
- Fluency in English and German language
- Basic knowledge of chemicals and comfortable working with them
- Pays attention to working safely
- Motivated to learn and apply new skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Must have strong multitasking, time management and organization skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Spreadsheet and word processing skills (MS Office)
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to lift up-to 15kg
Nice to have:
- Fluency in French and Luxembourgish language
- Foundational knowledge in statistics and statistical tools (e.g. MiniTab™, JMP™, etc)
- Prior experience in a laboratory
- Fundamental proficiencies in project management (PMITM)
