Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a Reporter-Researcher to support WP Intelligence, our premium analysis product, in delivering high-quality insights to our membership and newsletter subscribers. Reporting to the Editorial Director, this role will work closely with our industry analysts to monitor key policy and business trends, conduct in-depth research, and contribute to executive-level analysis. The ideal candidate is a curious and detail-oriented news enthusiast who can synthesize complex information quickly and communicate it effectively to a sophisticated audience.

Responsibilities:

  • Aggregate and write key sections of WP Intelligence newsletters, ensuring timely and insightful coverage of major policy and business trends.

  • Support the production of high-quality analysis by assisting industry analysts with research, data gathering, and fact-checking.

  • Conduct original reporting and contribute newsletter introductions when needed.

  • Monitor government and business data sets, identifying key trends and translating them into accessible insights for an executive audience.

  • Assist with research and content preparation for additional WP Intelligence products and initiatives.

  • Collaborate closely with editorial and analytical teams to refine research methodologies and ensure accuracy.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the fast-moving news cycle, recognizing both immediate developments and long-term trends.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, political science, economics, business, or a related field.

  • 2+ years of experience in research, journalism, or policy analysis.

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to summarize complex information in a clear and compelling way.

  • Familiarity with business and government data sources and experience analyzing trends from these datasets.

  • Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and manage multiple research assignments simultaneously.

  • Experience with data visualization tools and methodologies is a plus.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Passion for business, policy, and current events.

The Washington Post’s policy for employees is five days per week in the office, with exceptions for newsgathering and general business travel.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.

The salary range for this position is:

82,600.00 - 123,800.00 USD Annual

The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
