Marmon/Keystone's Mexico division is currently recruiting for a bilingual commodities focused Procurement Specialist based out of Texas or Illinois. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring steel tube materials and related products to meet company requirements. This role involves managing supplier relationships, ensuring cost-effective purchasing, maintaining inventory levels, and collaborating with internal teams to align procurement strategies with production and business goals. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional attention to detail, strong negotiation skills, and a proven history of achieving cost savings while maintaining high-quality standards. Proficiency in both Spanish and English and knowledge of CRU steel market movements are key assets.

Key Responsibilities

 

Procurement and Sourcing

Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers for steel materials based on quality, cost, and reliability.

Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with suppliers to achieve the best value for the company, emphasizing cost savings.

Monitor and analyze CRU (Commodity Research Unit) steel market trends and movements to optimize purchasing strategies and timing.

Conduct thorough supplier and market analysis to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.

 

Inventory and Order Management

Utilize MRP systems to generate purchase requisitions, analyze demand forecasts, and plan material requirements.

Maintain accurate records of inventory levels to ensure adequate stock while avoiding overstock or shortages.

Issue purchase orders and follow up to ensure timely and accurate delivery.

Coordinate with warehouse and logistics teams to oversee inbound shipments.

 

Compliance with IMMEX Program

Ensure all procurement activities align with IMMEX regulations, including proper classification of materials for tax and duty exemptions.

Manage required documentation for import/export activities, including pedimentos and certifications of origin.

Work closely with customs brokers and logistics providers to facilitate seamless cross-border trade.

Stay updated on changes to IMMEX-related policies and advise the team on implications for procurement strategies.

 

Supplier Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers.

Evaluate supplier performance regularly to ensure compliance with quality, delivery, and cost standards.

Resolve issues related to delivery delays, quality discrepancies, or other supplier concerns promptly and effectively.

 

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with production, quality assurance, and engineering teams to understand material specifications and project needs.

Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with suppliers, internal teams, and stakeholders.

Provide regular updates on purchasing status, market conditions, and potential risks to stakeholders.

Support cost-reduction initiatives through strategic procurement and supplier negotiations.

 

Compliance and Reporting

Ensure all procurement activities adhere to company policies, IMMEX regulations, and other applicable laws.

Maintain detailed and accurate records of purchases, contracts, and supplier communications.

Generate and present reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and inventory levels to management.

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.

3+ years of experience in procurement, preferably in the steel or manufacturing industry.

Proficiency in MRP systems for planning and procurement processes.

Strong understanding of CRU market movements and their implications on steel pricing.

In-depth knowledge of the Mexican IMMEX program, including its legal and operational requirements.

Proven track record of achieving significant cost savings in previous roles.

 

Skills and Competencies

Bilingual in Spanish and English (fluent), both written and verbal.

Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in purchasing processes and supplier management.

Strong negotiation skills with a proven history of securing favorable terms.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to build and maintain effective supplier relationships.

Knowledge of logistics, customs procedures, and international trade.

 

Additional Requirements

Understanding of steel industry market dynamics and trends.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

Certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CIPS) is advantageous.

 

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to supplier sites, trade shows and Marmon/Keystone Mexico locations (approximately 25%)
  • May involve interaction with international suppliers across different time zones.

Target Compensation: $60,000 - $85,000/year
