Grade Level (for internal use):

About the Role/The Team:
The Associate Director will play an important role in advancing research on private markets by analyzing data and writing commentaries as part of S&P Global Ratings’ Private Markets Analytics team. You will help develop and maintain a portfolio of new research publications, covering emerging and established trends in the private markets and utilizing data from across S&P Global to provide transparency and insights on the corporate debt capital market.
You will operate as a market writer and data journalist within an agile research group, helping to establish and expand Private Markets Analytics’ core research offering. As such, you will be an initiator and innovator, leveraging proprietary data sources to produce regular and recurring reports on private markets, contributing insights that drive market-moving thought leadership, and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization to advance broader research initiatives.
Our content is written for financial market participants who are specifically engaged in private markets, as well as general audiences who are eager to learn more about this space. Your focus in this role is to produce a suite of regular research publications related to the private markets, and to develop original research that aligns with these audiences.
The Team:
S&P Global Ratings’ Private Markets Analytics team is focused on how private funding is changing debt capital markets and impacting the growth and evolution of areas like sustainability and digital infrastructure. The purpose of this team is to create and cascade S&P Global Ratings’ coverage of private markets, in partnership with stakeholders across our organization’s Analytical, Research & Development, and Commercial functions.
Our Private Markets Analytics team generates unique, market-leading insights on private markets. We bring a data-driven subject matter expertise on private markets and leverage the expertise of the broader organization to reflect the knowledge, insights, and ratings capacity of 2,000 analysts across global corporates, financial institutions, sovereigns, infrastructure, and other asset classes throughout public and private capital markets.
The Private Market Analytics team is part of Analytical Research & Development (R&D) within S&P Global Ratings. R&D covers an array of emerging sectors and macro risk factors within the debt capital markets—including sustainability, the energy transition, centralized finance, and artificial intelligence. Within R&D, we are focused on how changing risks and market dynamics will affect market participants, and provide research, insights, and data to enable decision-making with conviction.
The Impact:
This role will be the lead associate partnering internally (with analytical, economic, data, and research stakeholders) and externally (with credit market participants) to produce timely, relevant, and relatable coverage on the evolution and changing dynamics of the private credit markets.
At S&P Global Ratings, our independent opinions on creditworthiness take a holistic view to provide greater transparency for the totality of private markets participants—from private credit, private equity, and fund finance to the middle market, business development companies, and beyond. You will be a critical component of advancing our analysis and offering.
Responsibilities:
-
Market coverage: In partnership with the other members of the Private Markets Analytics team and our Analytical partners, you will write narrative commentaries and regular market trend publications backed by data to support analytical observations.
-
Problem-solving: Because we produce research and reporting grounded in data, this candidate will be expected to find ways to apply new and existing data sets to analyze and address key themes in the market.
-
Trend awareness: Stay actively abreast of financial market events and their implications on corporate debt and leveraged finance markets.
-
Data analysis: Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, and various statistical analyses to assess market trends.
What We’re Looking For:
-
At least (5) years of experience financial writing expertise is required, along with the ability to deliver key insights on market trends and topics that matter to investors. This includes demonstrating a skilled ability to create compelling stories, distil complex concepts with clarity, and translate data.
-
A demonstrable understanding of private credit is required, along with an in-depth understanding of the mechanics and dynamics of the leveraged finance markets, including primary and secondary market activity.
-
Must have strong quantitative skills, such as data journalism, querying and analyzing fixed income and macroeconomic data. Prior experience aggregating and interpreting company and sector-level financial data is strongly preferred.
-
Strong skills with Excel are required.
-
Experience with database and statistical tools (SQL, Databricks, Python) is a plus.
-
Strong communication and presentation skills are required, as well as a demonstrable ability to present to both internal and external audiences.
-
Must be a team player with a track record of collaboration with cross functional and cross regional teams.
-
Demonstrated ability to self-manage, take initiative, stay organized, and meet deadlines without supervision is required.
