Job Summary
Leads the development and implementation of the enterprise-wide Business Continuity program. Ensures organizational readiness to respond to large-scale incidents which impact the company's business resiliency. Designs, plans and consults on program development, documents decisions, coordinates development of communication plans, and assists in the creation of Emergency Response and Business Contingency plans of all support departments. Ensures essential corporate information and resources are identified and adequately protected. Evaluates and provides direction and assists in the development and review of Emergency Response, Business Contingency, Disaster Recovery, Pandemic and Active Assailant plans in conjunction with all operating companies and support departments. Evaluates business continuity plans and develops corporate support emergency exercises and training to ensure adequacy and compliance with all laws and regulations.
Essential Functions
- Develop strategic goals for the Business Continuity Program across NiSource.
- Participate with Director of Business Continuity in the development of overall strategies, policies and objectives for Business Continuity and Business Contingency Plans, ensuring alignment with Corporate Crisis Management Plan, Gas Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan, as well as other Emergency Response Plans and integrate with overall Company goals and objectives.
- Facilitate, promote and enhance collaborative relationships with NiSource operating company’s compliance and emergency planning teams, other business partners and industry peers.
- Plan and conduct emergency drills and table top exercises for NiSource Corporate Services departments, participate and provide best practice continuous improvement opportunities for emergency exercises in gas and electric operations.
- Conduct after action reviews (AARs) as required for planned emergency drills and exercises and upon request.
- Develop business impact analysis, interviews, and evaluation techniques to ensure management business process recovery goals and objectives are being met by the Program.
- Foster and encourage sustained sponsorship from the NiSource Executive Council on Business Continuity Planning and build strategic relationships with other senior executives.
- Coordinate the periodic assessment of business process and application system recovery and support of critical business functions through a periodic business impact assessment/reassessment.
- Research and review regulatory and audit requirements to ensure that the Business Continuity Program meets and remains in compliance with all existing/new laws and regulations.
- Facilitate review, develops procedures and provides expertise in Business Continuity best practices for operating and support department emergency response and business contingency plans to ensure adequate protection of company assets (employees, operating facilities, buildings, equipment, etc.).
- Establish communication and coordination with Information Technology Disaster Recovery team.
- Develop scenarios and coordinate activation of emergency mass communications to NiSource employees using systems, tools supported by Business Continuity.
- Develop and coordinate training programs and resource tools to ensure employees across the corporation clearly understand expected responsibilities related to planning, exercises and disaster behavior response.
- Interact with community and business leaders to develop and garner support with preparedness evaluations and exercises.
- Keep abreast of Federal/State regulations regarding business continuity, determining affect on NiSource.
- Track world-wide events that could potentially affect continuity of operations across NiSource, developing plans to mitigate affect and coordinating implementation corporate-wide.
- Participates in utility industry business continuity focus groups to gain insights and/or improvements to the NiSource Business Continuity Program.

- Required Qualifications For Position
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Information Systems.
- 7-9 years At least 8-10 years of operating, emergency planning or information technology experience
- Previous supervisory or management experience that demonstrates the required skills and competencies
- Demonstrated knowledge of business operating concepts
- Demonstrated knowledge of business continuity concepts
- Demonstrated knowledge of emergency planning
- Travel to operating locations
- Provide support for emergency employee communications outside of normal business hours
- Use of personal computer hardware and software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills, including development of alternatives and recommendations
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong information technology knowledge and information technology disaster recovery knowledge
- Effective interaction with personnel at all levels of the NiSource organization
- Effectively handle pressure situations
- Broad base of business knowledge and understanding of operations
- This job requires hiring /firing decisions or makes recommendations regarding hiring and firing.
- Knowledgeable of Nisource’s mode of operations and the overall business goals and objectives of the company
- Trained in National Incident Management System (NIMS) principles
- Demonstrated ability to think short-term/immediate and long-term/strategic planning
- Excellent presentation skills
- Requires Business Continuity Certification (ABCP) / (CBCP) or willingness to obtain Upon Hire

Salary Range:
$110,200.00 - $165,300.00
