The Manager, eBilling Compliance & Operations is responsible for overseeing the efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of the firm’s eBilling operations, with a primary focus on ensuring adherence to outside counsel guidelines. Working closely with the Senior eBilling Manager, this role develops, implements, and enhances policies and procedures to align with client billing requirements and industry best practices. They collaborate with attorneys, legal staff, and finance teams to drive compliance, streamline workflows, and optimize system functionality for timely and accurate invoice submissions. With a strong emphasis on mitigating compliance risks and improving operational performance, this role is integral to maintaining billing integrity and supporting the firm’s financial objectives.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead and oversee the development and maintenance of processes to ensure firm-wide adherence to all agreed-upon client billing requirements.

  • Collaborate with and provide strategic guidance to the Pricing and Billing Operations teams in the implementation and management of the outside counsel guideline compliance process.

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve an in-house counsel guidelines database for the eBilling and billing teams, ensuring alignment with client billing policies.

  • Design and implement compliance-focused training programs, including training materials, to educate internal teams and departments on client billing requirements.

  • Manage and drive compliance-related projects, identifying and executing process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and mitigate risk.

  • Develop, analyze, and distribute key performance metrics and eBilling reports, providing insights to senior leadership to drive data-informed decision-making.

  • Ensure continuous monitoring and enforcement of processes to maintain compliance with all agreed-upon client requirements.

  • Collaborate with finance teams to ensure matters have all required information for proper ebilling matter setup.

  • Collaborate with Sr. Leadership on onboarding processes for new billing clients and/or matters and new billers.

  • Act as liaison with the Pricing team to ensure proper rates are allocated to the correct client matters and collaborate with the Sr. Manager, eBilling to ensure all rate amendments are uploaded timely and accurately in client billing portals.

Who You Are:

  • 5 years working in a professional services time and materials billing environment, law firm billing experience preferred.

  • 5 years of experience in ebilling compliance.

  • 5 years working directly with attorneys reviewing and addressing ebilling client adherence.

  • 5-7 years of experience in reviewing and editing legal invoices to ensure compliance with client outside counsel guidelines.

  • Ability to adhere to, apply, and improve department policies and procedures relating to compliance. 

  • Ability to provide high-quality customer service in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to manage and handle a high volume of tasks while maintaining attention to detail and prioritizing appropriately.

  • Professional and tactful communicator.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Legal Finance applications.  Strong knowledge of Excel is strongly preferred. 

  • Knowledge of Client Account pricing is a plus.

The target salary range for this position varies by location and is commensurate with relevant experience: Boston $100,700 - $151,100 | Los Angeles $105,800 - $158,700 | New York $105,800 - $158,700 | Philadelphia $94,700 - $142,000 | San Francisco $112,800 - $169,200 | Santa Monica $105,800 - $158,700 | Silicon Valley $112,800 - $169,200 | Washington DC $100,700 - $151,100
