About the role
Lean Engineers are required to apply proven principles to systematically reduce and eliminate wastes which detract from efficiency, quality, and costs. They are expected to be knowledgeable in manufacturing processes and have knowledge of a variety of Lean and Six Sigma Tools. The Lean Engineer position is a support role whose expertise can be applied to every functional department in the company. This role will work under Engineering oversight but should be self-directed in the process of initiating and driving projects to their successful completion.
What you will do
- Employ Lean methodologies to systematically reduce and/or eliminate wastes
- Wastes in Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Over-processing, Over-production, Defects, Failure to utilize Skills should be targeted
- Collaborates with any and all departments in the function of performing Lean Projects
- Expected to train co-workers on Lean concepts and lead Kaizen events driving selected improvements
- Ensure return on investment by tracking value of project. Showing current and future states and establishing controls to monitor performance after event completion
- Develop manufacturing processes that will improve the efficiency, repeatability and quality of end products and sub-assemblies
- Utilize DFT/Lean/Six Sigma principals to lead project teams in improving processes, product flow, OTD, and product quality
- Plan, design and implement manufacturing and assembly processes for new product development
- Work with design engineers to determine critical-to-function features and determine best methods to ensure quality and reliability while maintaining ease of manufacturing/assembly
- Review detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for accuracy and tolerances
- Determine parts, equipment, and tools needed to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications
- Work closely with Manufacturing and Engineering groups to develop, coordinate and implement technical training of employees
- Generate time/labor standards and routings to enable an understanding of capacity, load and efficiency
- Analyze existing processes, recommend and implement process improvements
- Design assembly fixtures and tooling to aid in the manufacture of assemblies and sub-assemblies
- Create manufacturing instructions, and procedures, as well as generating ECNs to correct errors or improve manufacturability
- Identify improvement opportunities in cost, quality, and repeatability
- Develop and maintain operational procedures
- Generate manufacturing instructions and procedures in support of product build requirements and generate ECN’s as required
- Support the introduction of new products through DFM reviews, product readiness reviews, process and fixture development, and assembly documentation
- Review defect data, analyze potential root causes and implement corrective actions as required
- Help to identify areas needing improvement and select projects which are impactful to the overall improvement of the company
What you need
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering
- 3+ years of Lean Manufacturing experience preferred. Experienced earned via schoolwork is acceptable
- Six Sigma certification is a plus
- Prior experience supporting cross functional teams through Lean projects
- Microsoft Project, Word, Power-point, Excel, Visio, Auto-Cad LT, ERP systems
Our good faith estimate of salary for this role is $75,614- $95,115. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.
This position requires on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage Headquarters in Hauppauge, NY.
