The goal of this activity is to provide support to government-led education systems to strengthen these and incentivize greater ownership of, and investment in, the education sector by the Government of the Republic of South Sudan (GRSS), to help strengthen the social contract and build functioning education institutions to enable future development.

Position Description

The Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead is responsible for providing technical expertise on gender and social inclusion matters during project implementation such as direct GESI technical support to the Team Lead and Education Lead in policy advocacy, and policy and intervention development. This role will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and evaluation of activities to define a gendered approach to address systemic barriers to marginalized groups. The GESI Lead will work with the team to ensure that gender is incorporated into all program activities. The Gender and Social Inclusion Lead will play a key role in building the technical capacity of all stakeholders.



Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree in gender/women’s studies, social science, international development, education, or similar relevant field required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in conducting gender assessments and social inclusion work.
  • Proven ability to apply gender-sensitive and gender-transformative approaches to issues on development programs in education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with host government and teams in implementing a complex project in the field under challenging circumstances.
  • Significant knowledge of gender principles as they relate to access to rights and girls’ and marginalized group’s education.
  • Experience in gender-based programming with substantial understanding of and commitment to equality and equity issues and mainstreaming.
  • Experience working on similar donor-funded programs in developing countries.
  • Experience providing sound recommendations on strategies and tools to integrate gender in project design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of international best practices on gender programing, project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as excellent interpersonal, writing and presentation skills.


Language:

Fluency in oral and written English is required.
