About the Role

The New York Times is looking for an experienced and proactive contracts and legal professional to assist with drafting, review and negotiation of commercial contracts and project management. You will report to Senior Counsel within the Commercial Business and Legal Affairs (CBLA) team. 

The contracts manager will be based in the New York headquarters on a hybrid (in-office/remote) schedule, in the office 3 days/week.

Responsibilities:

  • Support manager and CBLA team on a range of contracts and matters

  • Review and negotiate redlines to our standard agreements

  • Draft amendments, statements of work (SOWs), terminations, master services agreements and other related documents 

  • Create and use company templates, playbooks and systems to support the tasks above, and escalate concerns for attorney review

  • Maintain internal databases, playbooks and contract management systems to support contract review and negotiation, and identify opportunities to streamline processes and templates 

  • Review government bid documents and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) against internal databases and contract templates to ensure compliance

  • Partner with NYT Enterprise Subscription, Licensing and other internal business teams across the company

  • Communicate confidently with clients, vendors and other outside parties

  • Conduct other projects and oversee other matters as assigned by manager

  • Demonstrates support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a contracts professional role drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts

  • Strong experience drafting and negotiating contracts using templates and using and creating playbooks 

  • Experience working with contract policies and procedures within a corporate business setting

  • Strong organizational skills, and experience leading projects and agreements from conception to completion independently

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to balance time sensitive competing demands

  • Experience handling sensitive, confidential information 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Ironclad

  • Familiarity with intellectual property (IP), licensing, vendor procurement, data privacy (CIPP/US certification), government contracting, or Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs)

The annual base pay range for this role is between $110,000.00 and $125,000.00
