Purpose of the Job
The Product Engineer function is to be the technical expert on EPD's produced products, (Compressors, Steam turbines, Expanders). To carry out or direct any engineering analysis, verify proper application of the products and product components, and to perform any project assignments and testing that requires judgment in the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. To use acquired depth of experience to evaluate the results of analysis and testing to make engineering decisions and recommendations.
The purpose of the position is to provide experience to individuals promoted from the Engineering I Product Engineering position, or to a newly hired Product Engineer with equivalent experience hired to the position of Engineer II Product Engineer EPD. The position will function primarily as either a lead Product Engineer on projects of well-defined scope with limited complexity, or as support to a more senior Product Engineering staff member, who is functioning as a lead Product Engineer on a project which are large or of a complex nature. In either case the position will work to achieve equitable and satisfactory execution of contracts, within project budgets and to project schedules.
Interface between Product Engineering and internal Elliott departments, external clients, sub-suppliers, and third-party entities. Develop technical and commercial capabilities, to allow personal development and career growth. Promote a positive attitude for a safe and healthy work environment, as well as awareness for high quality products and services from the Product Engineering department. Provide input as requested for continuous improvement of the contract execution work process. Function as a lead Product Engineer for selected projects. Provide engineering support as directed by the lead Product Engineer, or Product Manager.
Maintain an environment for professional and ethical conduct within EPD's Product Engineering department. Follow department process work standards and procedures to achieve best-in-class contract execution for assigned projects, either as lead Product Engineer or in a support role.
Nature of the Job
As a compressor Product Engineer, you are a technical expert on the compressor product line. You will be assigned as the lead engineer or as support to the lead engineer on new, rerate, service or modification orders for centrifugal, TC or axial compressors. You will lead the technical effort in the design of the machine from order entry through the design, manufacturing, and testing of that machine. Your engineering guidance in mitigating the risks of the mechanical and aerodynamic design are critical in the success of each order.
A successful product engineer must be a logical thinker who embraces the responsibility of making decisions and can handle multi-tasking.
What you will do for every assigned shop order
- Review of the mechanical and aerodynamic design of the machine
- Lateral rotordynamics and train torsional analysis
- Mitigation of identified risks
- Review and approval of all unit manufacturing drawings
- Generate and submit purchase requisitions
- Conduct design reviews
- Troubleshoot assembly, manufacturing and testing issues
- Support field scanning and interpretation of gathered data from existing machines
Other activities
- Support application engineering in quote activities
- Support technical services on field issues
- Generate or revise engineering standard documents
- Participate in corrective action process
- Participate in interdepartmental continuous improvement activities
Background and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Preferable Mechanical).
- 2+ years of rotating equipment experience.
- Solid foundation in Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics, Thermodynamics
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret drawings.
- Basic computer skills : Microsoft Office Suite specifically Excel and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Additional Information :
- Hybrid schedule, in office 3 days a week
- Occasional travel required
- Casual overtime required.
