Ciena is committed to our people-first philosophy. Our teams enjoy a culture focused on prioritizing a personalized and flexible work environment that empowers an individual’s passions, growth, wellbeing and belonging. We’re a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.

How You Will Contribute:

Reporting to the Global Supply Chain Leader, the Vice President of Supply Chain Operations will lead Ciena’s global operations for Optical Products outsourced manufacturing.  This role is critical in driving the supply chain and manufacturing operations, ensuring the successful delivery of leading-edge technology to market and driving delivery of upwards of $2B of Ciena’s annual revenue plan.

You will have ownership for supply chain and supply planning activities, new product introduction and Engineering for the full suite of Optical products and the associated vertically integrated components. You will also provide operations engineering support for Ciena’s full product set on certain key operational concerns where consolidated management is best, including Asset management, Test infrastructure Cyber security, and Data and Analytics.

In this role, you will collaborate extensively with Product Design, Global Procurement, suppliers, production partners, and Fulfillment Operations to plan and execute supply for all Optical products, achieving corporate objectives for Plan of Record (POR) delivery, on time product delivery and manufacturing lead times to meet customer requirements.

You will:

  • Drive proper production control, supply planning, partner execution and support to meet Ciena’s sales forecasts and evolving customer order book while optimizing supply chain operational performance across service level, inventory and cost.
  • Be accountable for building and maintaining long-term strategic relationships with key technology critical suppliers and EMS partners, working with staff and/or suppliers to identify and mitigate gating materials or processes to meet customer deliveries.
  • Partner with R&D throughout all phases of the product development process with a focus on delivering Ciena’s POR while fully industrializing New Products and processes through ramp, early life and volume. The bias of this business process is to “time to market” for the Optical product set.  You will also deliver “Life Cycle Management” engineering for the same product sets.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to seek, choose and develop partners suitable to deliver our product technology road map including system level modems with industry leading rates (1.6T and beyond), pluggable form factor coherent modems and key performance or cost enabling “in house developed” components required in the above products
  • Deliver Engineering services for Ciena’s full product suite on common processes including test and production asset management, cyber security, test tool infrastructure, technical data and analytic services and prototype and pre—production lab operations.
  • Utilize the EMS playbook, ensuring all partners are properly informed and prepared to deliver to Ciena’s expected service and investment levels.
  • In conjunction with key internal process owners, develop and implement systems and tools solutions to drive automated and collaborative interfaces between Ciena and its key partners.
  • Develop, establish, and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems and metrics that relate to the Optical supply chain.
  • Set functional and process targets and drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis and action plan activities for the product supply chain as well as develop, establish, and provide for the maintenance of reporting systems and metrics that relate to the Optical supply chain.

The Must Haves:

  • University Degree or equivalent certification in Engineering or Supply Chain/Operations Management coupled with extensive operational experience in an engineering and/or end-to-end Supply Chain leadership role.
  • Proven and significant change/transformational capability to support future investments in industry leading product set and supply chain model to drive improved cost, greater quality, and an overall improved customer experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with cross functional cohorts and outsourced partners, enabling you to lead and influence at all levels in the organization.
  • Extensive experience in attracting, motivating and developing staff to optimize their performance and fuel their professional growth.
  • Experience in a global environment bringing leading edge technology to life with a demonstrated track record of bridging that world into a robust volume supply chain with a complex multi-partner/site supplier ecosystem.
  • Ability to develop a clear vision of what the organization needs to become in line with corporate and division/functional objectives, leading to process and structural improvements that enable achievement of key financial and service objectives.
  • Comprehensive understanding of supply chain principles, including procurement, materials management, and inventory management in addition to strong supply chain knowledge of the EMS industry.
  • Strategic thinker – you will challenge current practices and ways of thinking about the Supply chain and New product introduction in a company that lives by bringing Leading Edge Technology to “industrialized” life, delivering a supply chain with a balance of resiliency, agility and cost competitiveness.
  • Flexibility to operate outside normal hours to ensure delivery of the business and resolution of critical issues would is required including regular travel to major operation sites in USA, Canada, Mexico and Thailand.
