OVERVIEW
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Engineering to lead our engineering team at eClinical Solutions, a rapidly growing SaaS-based software company. This individual must have a solid background in hands-on software development, having progressed through various technical roles before advancing into engineering leadership. They will work closely with the CTO to define and communicate the technical vision and strategy for the organization, and will oversee all software engineering, SQA, and DevOps initiatives within their department. The Vice President of Engineering will lead and guide efforts to optimize engineering solutions for quality, scalability, performance, and reliability. They will provide both technical and managerial leadership across cross-functional teams, supporting product development efforts and enhancing the effectiveness and maturity of SDLC practices. This role requires a strong leader with a passion for technology and a proven track record of scaling engineering teams in cloud applications and SaaS environments.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate as a trusted partner for senior management in helping to define, shape and tailor the technical vision and strategy, aligning engineering resources to product and business plans
- Provide investment plans along with budgetary requests for software engineering, SQA, and DevOp to finance and senior management to achieve objective and key results “OKR”, growth, and operational effectiveness
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices such as AI and data science
- Develop and execute engineering plans so that they deliver quality product offerings that achieve the company’s business and investment objectives
- Oversee all aspects of software development, including architecture, design, development, quality assurance, and DevOps
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders such as product management, sales, marketing, and other departments to ensure successful product delivery and customer satisfaction
- Provide stewardship and guidance in the definition, implementation, and continuous improvement of best practices in software development, SQA, and DevOps processes, and project management techniques such as Agile methodologies and Kanban
- Identify, evaluate, and monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to inform strategic direction
- Recruit, motivate and manage the engineering, SQA, and DevOp teams, fostering a culture of innovation, high performance, and product quality
- Develop a culture, organizational capabilities and mindset that balances quantitative and qualitative analysis with timely delivery of product based on operational excellence
- Provide technical and operational guidance to software development and SQA organization
- Solve complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of cross-organizational and client goals
- Work with third party vendors to improve overall effectiveness of product offerings through proof of concepts and/or application of their technologies

CANDIDATE’S PROFILE
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience preferred
- 20+ years of experience developing commercial software preferred
- 10+ years of experience successfully developing and delivering SaaS application preferred
- 5+ years of experience managing multiple senior and/or director level positions in software development and SQA preferred
- 5+ years of experience applying Agile/Scrum methodologies preferred

- Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated the ability to drive technical innovation and solve complex problems
- Proven experience as a development manager taking a start-up to a mature product development stage which shifts focus from rapid ideation, iteration, and validation to optimizing efficiency, maintaining and growing market share, managing feature additions, with greater emphasis on data driven decision making and established processes to ensure stability and scalability
- Highly skilled at recruiting and hiring technical talent for their development and SQA organization
- Experience managing local and geographically remote work force
- Experience as a change agent formulating strategies and driving operational excellence through continuous improvement
- Experience managing both software development and SQA groups in the advancement of software quality
Technical Skills
- Well versed in different software development practices
- Technically knowledgeable on cloud base services and their applicability to enhance software design and implementation
- Strong understanding of software development methodologies, architecture, and best practices
- Experience with the following technologies and development platforms:
- MS .Net Framework 4.8
- C#, SQL Server, Python
- Angular, JavaScript, Typscript, HTML, CSS3, and jQuery
- QlikSense
