General Purpose of Job:
To provide general clerical, equipment, and patient care support to patient care units.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Clerical duties: respond to communication devices such as phone/voceru/call bells, able to complete basic entries into the electronic medical record; records patient data in EMR, transcribes written orders
- Room/Patient care/Equipment management: stocks supply, checks for expiration dates, orders supply, cleans equipment, cleans toys.
- Infectious material exposure: transports blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens, picks up blood from blood bank and delivers to the unit; sprays surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepares/transports them for processing, packages or moves infectious waste containers for disposal; may provide in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions, assists with hazardous chemical decontamination
- Patient care support: measures, records and empties urine collection devices, empties bedpans/commodes, reinforces established education material or room orientation with patients/families; transports patients (no IV or Oxygen) off unit for tests/procedures, discontinues Peripheral IV’s, obtains Point of Care specimens and urine, wound, stool throat and nasal specimens; brings equipment and assists the Transport team at the helicopter pad, performs venipuncture, 12 Lead EKG tests, splint application
- Patients at risk for self-harm or harm to others performs room safety check, performs non-clinical patient assistant role in addition to performs 1:1 supervision for at risk patients including patients in restraints (not hard restraints) and completes basic data collection and documentation.
Education and/or Experience:
Certified Nurse Aide, Patient Care Technician School, EMT-Basic or other relevant health care training program.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
- American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained prior to hire and maintained continuously thereafter.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously thereafter
- Training or experience to perform EKG and/or Phlebotomy
- Must obtain Phlebotomy Certification within 6 months of hire
