Position Summary 

The Territory Manager role is an individual contributor and reports to the Southern Region - Carolina Commercial Market Manager. This position is home-office based within North Carolina, with preference for the Raleigh/Durham/Cary or Greensboro/Winston-Salem geographies. 

 

This position is part of a job family with multiple grade levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.  

Key Responsibilities  

  • Manages the commercial business relationship with existing branded and unbranded customers to enhance MPC’s position as a preferred supplier. Manages the commercial business relationship includes conducting face-to-face meetings, negotiating contracts, accurately and timely addressing customer concerns, communicating market supply conditions, facilitating resolution of back-office issues, and following up on customer related requests inside and outside of the organization. 

  • Develops and implements strategies to increase MPC market share and grow commercial value in assigned market areas. Strategy development includes understanding and monitoring customer needs, market dynamics, competitive offerings and MPC strengths and capabilities to create programs and offerings to best capitalize on market opportunities.   

  • Prospects new branded and unbranded customer accounts as well as develops new business within existing customer relationship with a goal of enhancing corporate value. Prospecting includes understanding the new/existing customers business and creatively matching the customer needs to MPC’s offerings and capabilities through commercial offerings that fall within the strategic direction of the territory.     

  • Regularly conducts strategic reviews of all contracts, negotiate favorable contract renewals that add value. Facilitate contract administration through internal back-office systems and processes.  

  • Leads and/or participates in market development projects and communicates associated program information to internal and external business partners. Projects could include asset purchase/divestiture, asset improvements, new or adjusted product offerings, program execution, sales or marketing initiatives, and other projects to further drive corporate value.  

  • Collects and disseminates market intelligence to benefit decision making for internal business partners.  Relevant information includes, but is not limited to, detailed and general market knowledge. 

  • Drives and supports business process improvement ideas that create internal process efficiencies and/or reduces transactional or administrative costs for customers.  Improvements could include CRM enhancements, customer portal updates, internal procedure adjustments, or other tool or system developments.   

  • Maintains a broad understanding of industry issues, government regulation, economic conditions, business outlooks, commercial and consumer needs, and MPC competitive strengths and weaknesses by market. 

  • Actively participates in industry associations, conferences, internal department meetings, and customer events. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Two (2) or more years of industry-related experience required.
  • Five (5) or more years of industry-related experience preferred.
