About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Support Storage and Data Protection professional to manage, support, and ensure the integrity, availability, and security of the organization’s storage infrastructure and backup systems. This role involves overseeing storage solutions, performing data backup and recovery operations, and troubleshooting storage-related issues. You will work with a variety of storage technologies and tools, providing both proactive and reactive support for data protection systems across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:Storage Systems Support and Management

• Administer and support enterprise storage systems, including SAN (Storage Area Networks), NAS (Network Attached Storage), and cloud-based storage solutions.
• Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot storage devices, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
• Manage storage allocations, quotas, and storage provisioning for various applications and teams, ensuring scalability and performance.
• Maintain storage capacity planning and monitor performance metrics to prevent bottlenecks or failures.
• Implement and manage storage tiering, data replication, and high-availability solutions to ensure data redundancy and fault tolerance.
• Perform regular storage system health checks and maintenance, ensuring efficient and secure operation.

Data Protection and Backup Management

• Oversee and manage data backup operations, ensuring that all critical data is regularly backed up, secured, and recoverable.
• Configure and maintain backup software solutions (e.g., Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault) to support full, incremental, and differential backups.
• Ensure that backup jobs are executed on schedule and complete without error, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Manage and monitor the restoration of data, including performing recovery testing to ensure reliability and accuracy of backup data.
• Establish and enforce retention policies to ensure data is retained according to legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
• Conduct periodic disaster recovery drills to test the recovery procedures and minimize downtime in the event of system failure.

Data Security and Compliance

• Implement data protection mechanisms, including encryption, to safeguard against data loss, corruption, or unauthorized access.
• Ensure compliance with internal data protection policies, industry regulations, and government requirements regarding data security (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
• Collaborate with security teams to protect sensitive data and ensure proper access controls are in place for storage systems.
• Regularly review access logs and audit trails to detect any suspicious activity or data breaches.

Incident Response and Troubleshooting

• Respond to and resolve incidents related to storage systems, backups, and data protection services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware failures, network issues, or configuration problems impacting storage or backup systems.
• Perform root cause analysis for data loss incidents, backup failures, or performance degradation, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide on-call support for critical data recovery and system restoration efforts as required.

Capacity Planning and Optimization

• Perform capacity planning for storage solutions to ensure that resources are allocated efficiently and are able to meet the growing data demands of the organization.
• Recommend upgrades or optimizations to existing storage solutions based on performance analysis and business needs.
• Work with other IT teams to ensure that storage systems are properly integrated with other infrastructure components (e.g., databases, virtual machines, cloud storage).
• Monitor data growth trends and ensure proactive adjustments to storage resources to avoid disruptions or performance issues.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for storage systems, backup procedures, disaster recovery processes, and configuration settings.
• Generate reports on storage performance, backup success/failures, and recovery tests to provide visibility to IT management.
• Maintain a disaster recovery plan and ensure all team members are familiar with it.
• Ensure all incidents, changes, and resolutions are properly documented in IT service management tools.

Collaboration and Vendor Management

• Work closely with other IT teams (e.g., network, systems, security) to ensure seamless integration and operation of storage and data protection systems.
• Liaise with vendors and third-party service providers to procure storage hardware and backup software, as well as for support and warranty claims.
• Evaluate new technologies and solutions in the storage and data protection space and make recommendations for improvement.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent technical certifications and experience.
• Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience in storage management, data protection, and backup administration.
• Hands-on experience with storage technologies such as SAN, NAS, and cloud-based storage solutions (e.g., AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage).
• Experience with backup and recovery software (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup, or similar).
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and business continuity best practices and technologies.
• Familiarity with data protection and encryption techniques.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in configuring and managing storage systems, including RAID configurations, storage arrays, and backup devices.
• Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) to optimize storage and backup operations.
• Strong understanding of data security best practices, including encryption, access control, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and how they integrate with storage systems.
• Familiarity with cloud storage platforms (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid storage environments.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex storage and data protection issues.
• Good communication skills to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical users.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills for managing storage resources and backup processes.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
• Certifications (preferred):
• Certified Storage Engineer (e.g., SNIA)
• Veeam Certified Engineer or similar backup software certifications.
• ITIL Foundation Certification.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect or Microsoft Certified: Azure Storage certification.
