About the role

We've made great progress establishing our Technical Authoring function over recent years, and we have solid foundations in place.  We are looking to increase our authoring capacity to meet the double aspiration of serving more areas of our business and providing a larger variety of content to our customers.

That’s where you come in. We're looking for a Technical Author that can hit the ground running and is keen to develop their writing talents. Reporting to our existing Technical Author, you will share project workload while developing both personal skills and the quality and capability of the authoring function within Dayshape.

What you’ll do

  • Work closely with Engineering (in conjunction with Jira and Confluence) to source all material required to document release enhancements
  • Produce release notes and feature summaries for each release, in addition to updating existing User and Superuser Guides
  • Support the business by writing new and editing existing technical process guides
  • Support the Commercial team with writing/editing for sales collateral, proposals and blog content
  • Manage the information publishing process including internal communication of new titles and versions

NOTE: Dayshape documentation uses the following formats: HTML5 online help, traditional guides (Google Docs and PDF), internal wiki (Confluence), training materials and short videos.

  • Work closely with the other technical authors in the team as well as engineers, product managers and subject matter experts to gather all relevant material to maintain key Dayshape documentation such as user guides, release notes, and feature summaries.
  • Help organize and maintain Dayshape documentation repositories, ensuring easy access and proper version control.
  • Support the internal publishing process by assisting in the communication of new or updated documentation.
  • Contribute to improving the Dayshape technical authoring processes by incorporating feedback and refining Dayshape documentation where needed.
  • Assist in the creation of training materials and resources to help users understand key Dayshape functionality
  • Learn and apply best practices in using authoring tools in use within Dayshape (e.g., MS Word, Madcap Flare) and collaborate using wider applications within Dayshape such as Jira and Confluence.

 About you

  • Passionate about technology and curious to learn how things work
  • Proven authoring experience, preferably in a technical capacity
  • Analytical and meticulous with a strong attention to detail
  • Naturally able to empathise with your reader, adjusting tone to suit the needs of various target audiences
  • Able to grasp complex concepts quickly and communicate them clearly
  • Adaptable and excited by new challenges
  • Familiar with industry-standard tools and processes for documentation creation and management
  • Able to quickly form strong and productive working relationships with subject matter experts and key sources of knowledge

 Bonus points if you have

  • Familiarity documenting large, web-based, enterprise software solutions
  • Experience dealing with professional service firms or an understanding of how they operate
  • Worked in the resource management and planning space, either as a Technical Author or as an end-user
  • Previously used the MadCap suite of authoring tools, flare or Central or similar
  • Experience writing and debugging HTML5

 What you’ll get

  • Salary £34,000 to £37,000
  • At least £1,000 per year to spend on professional and personal development
  • 33 days' holiday per year (including bank holidays), increasing by 1 day each year to a maximum of 40 days
  • Paid four week sabbatical in your fifth anniversary year on top of your holiday entitlement
  • Enhanced family leave policies
  • Private healthcare and rewards through Vitality
  • Income protection and death in service cover
  • Matched 5% auto-enrolment workplace pension scheme
  • Access to wellbeing offerings, such as our Employee Assistance Programme and a dedicated counselling service
  • Innovation Week twice a year - a chance to experiment and work off-project
  • Volunteering time – up to 20 hours a year to participate in volunteer work
  • Regular All Hands meeting for inspiration and over-communication
  • Time out of the working week for team socials each month, with a mix of in-person and virtual options: past events include hiking, family BBQs, board games and at-home cocktail classes!
  • Genuinely nice, smart people to work with, who are excited about growing our company

Working Details

This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week). We typically work from 09:00 - 17:30 from Monday to Friday, though we can be flexible around this, just let us know.

We’re ideally looking for someone in/around Edinburgh. We're making the most of hybrid working, so you won't need to come into the office everyday (unless you want to!). We don't mandate required office time, but we find that most of the team enjoy working from home 2-3 days a week, and come into our office to connect with each other, make use of space, and for meetings.

Join the team!

Equality of opportunity is more than just a responsibility: we believe it’s a huge advantage to welcome a variety of experiences and perspectives into the team. Diversity is a great asset and, as such, we strongly encourage applications from any background.

This is your opportunity to really influence how we get things done, and to help shape how our customers and staff learn about our product as our company grows. We're doing well, but there's lots more to do in order to maintain the high bar and pace that we've set.

Everyone here is growing personally as the company grows, so if that sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we’d love to see your application.  The deadline for applications is Friday 7th March 12pm
