We are seeking a highly competent and adaptable Tax Audit and Controversy Manager to join our Tax team. The successful candidate will be responsible initially for managing tax risks, handling tax audits and inquiries, and resolving tax controversies in India.  This role requires the following key competencies: technical knowledge of Indian Direct and Indirect Tax Laws, Regulations, Rulings and Pronouncements, strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with tax authorities and internal stakeholders, and experience with process management and execution

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility is to address and become a subject matter expert for all audit inquiries in India.
  • Identify, assess and manage tax risks associated with the company's operations in India consistent with our Tax Risk Management processes
  • Collaborate effectively as a business partner with entire Gartner organization to gather relevant information for tax audits/inquiries
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of tax positions, audits, and disputes
  • Manage the flow of information and data management to external advisors and government auditors
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and government auditors to control the scope and direction of audits
  • Keep abreast of developments in tax laws, regulations, and practices in India and globally as needed
  • This role has the potential to evolve to support other jurisdictions including APAC
  • Assist in other tax-related projects as requested by our tax management

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Chartered Tax Consultant
  • 7+ years PQE of experience in tax either in a large public accounting firm, law firm, or multinational company
  • Experience in tax audits and tax controversy is preferred, however, not mandatory
  • Strong accounting skills with the ability to use ERP’s and tax software, such as Oracle, Fusion and OneSource.
  • Willingness and adaptability to work in a collaborative manner with other team members across various time zones
  • Ability to be objective and provide independent input and analysis
  • Exudes a positive and winning attitude
  • Proactive self-starter, able to work on own initiative in a fast-paced environment and can recognize opportunities for staff development, coaching, mentoring
