The Senior Project / Systems Engineer manages the overall systems engineering process for the entire lifecycle of customized AI systems, including sales support, solution definition, system development, verification, deployment, test, and validation. This process includes the translation of customer needs into customer use cases and operational scenarios (concept of operations) and the development, management, and delivery of solutions to customers.   

Primary Responsibilities

  • Fully understand and document customer’s needs to be addressed by Cogniac solution 
  • Develop the system concept of operations, customer use cases, and operational scenarios 
  • Drive customer solution definition, including conducting trade studies as required  
  • Develop technical proposals that describe customer needs, requirements, assumptions, proposed technical solution, timeline, and costs; identify/document acceptance criteria, gain alignment with customer, and obtain the appropriate approvals from Cogniac and customer stakeholders 
  • Collaborate with other engineers, partners, and the broader cross-functional team to ensure system requirements and plans meet business and customer needs 
  • Manage system requirements and the requirements decomposition process; guide the development of high-level functional and physical architectures and system specifications for the customer solution 
  • Lead project development and deployment including planning, system development / configuration, installation and test, and system go-live  
  • Utilize waterfall and agile methodologies to support solution development and project execution 
  • Create and manage the requirements verification methods, including requirements database, and compliance and traceability matrices, as required, to ensure solution compliance 
  • Manage individual project risks (identify potential risks and propose mitigation strategies) 
  • Prepare and present project and system engineering deliverables during design reviews and other formal program reviews 
  • Manage systems integration and test activities, system verification, and system validation 
  • Lead the development of project and systems engineering best practices, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives 
  • Ensure engineering quality through application of best practices in systems engineering 
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills  
  • Significant experience with project and systems engineering and solutions development for industrial processes and systems 
  • Proven and demonstrated experience in the full life cycle of solution development from concept to deployment including system architecture, requirements, design implementation, integration, and verification/validation, experience with manufacturing and industrial processes highly desired 
  • Strong understanding of good project management / development and systems engineering processes, such as lean manufacturing / product development, Design for Excellence (DFX), Six Sigma concepts, value engineering, and product life cycle management 
  • Experience with agile and other software development methodologies, vision systems, network systems, and communication protocols 
  • Expertise in project management and requirements management tools (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, DOORS, Jama, etc.) 
  •  Outstanding written communication skills 
  •  Strong verbal communication skills for internal and customer presentations 
  • Strong practical organization, facilitation, and arbitration skills 



Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field required. Masters desired
  • At least 10 years of project, systems, or solutions engineering experience  
  • Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) desired 
  • Certification as a Systems Engineering Professional by the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) desired
