Systems Engineer (MCG)
Job Description
We are looking for a Systems Engineer will design, implement, and manage System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) solutions to oversee and maintain the health and performance of the organization's IT infrastructure. This position requires close collaboration with infrastructure, application, and network teams to ensure effective monitoring, prompt incident resolution, and proactive IT system management. Additionally, the engineer will support the Active Directory (AD) and Exchange teams with first- and second-level incidents and requests, along with performing minor administrative tasks as needed by the department.
Key Responsibilities:
SCOM Infrastructure Management:

Design, deploy, and configure SCOM solutions, including management packs and monitoring workflows.

Maintain and upgrade the SCOM infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security.

Implement proactive monitoring solutions to detect and resolve issues in real-time.
Monitoring and Reporting:
-
Create and manage monitoring templates and dashboards for various IT systems and applications.

Generate and distribute performance, availability, and health reports on critical IT services.

Monitor alerts, identify root causes of incidents, and ensure prompt resolutions.
Custom Monitoring Solutions:

Develop and maintain custom management packs for unique business requirements.

Implement advanced monitoring configurations using scripts and custom workflows.
Incident and Problem Management:

Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve SCOM-related incidents.

Work with other IT teams to diagnose and resolve infrastructure performance issues.

Document incident resolutions and maintain an updated knowledge base.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

Work closely with IT, application, and network teams to ensure comprehensive monitoring coverage.

Engage with stakeholders to understand monitoring requirements and develop custom solutions.
Compliance and Security:
-
Ensure the SCOM environment adheres to organizational security policies and best practices.

Regularly audit the SCOM environment for performance, security, and operational issues.
Continuous Improvement:
-
Stay up to date with the latest SCOM features, tools, and best practices.

Continuously improve monitoring coverage, thresholds, and alerting mechanisms to enhance system performance and availability.
AD & Exchange Responsibilities:
-
Understanding of Active Directory and Entra ID
-
Managing Active Directory domain controllers.
-
Creating and managing user accounts, Security groups, and computer accounts.
-
Creating and managing distribution groups.
-
Health checks of Active directory and replication
-
Managing DNS and DHCP
-
Understanding of change process
-
PowerShell scripting
-
Patching of Active Directory Domain Controllers and Application Servers
Key Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
Experience:
-
Proven experience as a systems engineer or similar role.

Hands-on experience with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) in a large, distributed environment.

Hands-on experience with managing Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Entra, DNS, DCHP and Exchange

Experience with SCOM management packs, alerts, rules, and reporting.

Experience with PowerShell scripting to create and automate custom monitoring solutions.

Familiarity with Windows Server environments, networking, virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware), and storage systems.

App Dynamics experience would be advantageous.
Skills:

Strong understanding of IT infrastructure monitoring and management.

Advanced troubleshooting skills in SCOM, Windows, and networking.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
