YOUR MISSION

We are seeking an experienced Staff Spacecraft Systems Engineer to lead the development and implementation of complex space systems. This role requires a systems-thinking approach to manage the entire spacecraft lifecycle, from initial concept development through on-orbit operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical leadership and the ability to coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for spacecraft systems engineering aspects throughout the full mission lifecycle, including: 
    • Initial concept development and mission architecture design
    • Mission analysis and trade studies
    • Concept of Operations (CONOPS) definition
    • Requirements decomposition and allocation
    • Interface requirements definition
    • Requirements verification and validation
    • Integration and test operations support
    • Anomaly resolution and system optimization
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of: 
    • Requirements management processes and tools
    • Risk, issues, and opportunity management
    • Verification and Validation artifacts
  • Develop and maintain critical system budgets including power, mass, link margins, pointing, and thermal 
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced solution for space systems
  • Participate in software integration and test activities to verify mission functionality pre-deployment
  • Analyze technical data and verify system configurations against operational requirements
  • Establish and improve systems engineering processes and best practices
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of operational products, including procedures, tools, and system configurations 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Software or related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of directly relevant aerospace industry experience  
  • Demonstrated expertise in:  
    • Spacecraft systems engineering principles and techniques
    • Requirements analysis, flow-down, and verification
    • Power, mass, and other system budget development and maintenance
    • Configuration management
    • Satellite integration and test processes
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft subsystem functions and interfaces  
  • Proven experience with program management principles and tools 
  • Excellence in leadership and technical communication  
  • Experience with verification and validation processes 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree in Aerospace or other relevant engineering or science discipline 
  • Greater than 7 years professional experience in spacecraft systems engineering  
  • Direct experience with one or more spacecraft programs and missions. Experience with a full life-cycle from concept to on-orbit operations  
  • Experience with common analysis tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, STK, etc.  
  • Technical leadership experience, including requirements V&V, delegation and management of technical tasks, and responsible engineering authority (REA) experience. 

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $170,000-$230,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave 

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work Location—Successful candidates will be located near Denver. While we observe a hybrid work environment, some work must be done on site.
  • Work environment—the work environment; temperature, noise level, inside or outside, or other factors that will affect the person's working conditions while performing the job.
  • Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting and driving.
