The Role
The Operating Systems and Apps Quality team at Square ensures high-quality software for our sellers and buyers across Square Terminals, Square Registers, iOS and Android apps and 3rd party peripherals such as Printers, scanners etc.,
As a Software Quality Engineer, you'll ensure the delivery of high-quality software and platforms for Square POS product lines. You'll be responsible for building and executing test strategies and plans across multiple products and platforms while working with engineering teams to resolve defects. You are a detail-oriented engineer, with experience building great embedded software products and improving engineering efficiency. You'll also debug issues across the hardware and software stack including consumer electronics devices, and mobile apps.
You Will
- Define a quality strategy for the platform to have its own interface. Most of the testing will be at lower layers and not through UI.
- Determine when our product software is good enough for our sellers by using your knowledge of product architecture and evaluate product risk during each phase of development, deployment, and use.
- Partner with the Automation and Infrastructure team to use automation to allow better reliability and scalability.
- Work with multiple development teams and organizations to influence the software architecture and integration across the stack (e.g. applications, system, and firmware).
- Help build a team by mentoring engineers, encouraging engineering decision-making, and using your technical expertise.
- Diagnose issues, report defects, and propose regression tests to discover reoccurrences.
- Identify both objective and subjective quality trends, report on KPIs throughout project lifecycles, and deliver comprehensive analyses to Quality leadership.
You Have
- 10+ years of experience shipping successful consumer electronics devices.
- Developed validation strategy for a complex functional area or product.
- Experience working as a partner to development and product teams.
- Mentored other team members by providing technical guidance.
- Experience debugging applications on Platform, PC, and mobile components.
Nice to have:
- A sense of curiosity and have a talent for developing methods to identify issues in hardware, firmware, and software.
- Experience managing contractors
- Supported ongoing software releases across multiple products.
