Riot Engineers bring deep knowledge to specific technical areas, but also work in broad domains across team and disciplinary boundaries. As a Software Engineer III, you’ll have a large impact on the developers around you: driving product definition, providing technical direction and mentorship, and influencing cross-team objectives.
2XKO is Riot’s take on a 2v2 team-based fighting game (for more info on 2XKO click here!). As a Software Engineer III, with 2XKO, you will focus on both implementation and technical leadership. You will work across teams to ensure that we have solid technical foundations for a launch at scale while producing best practice code that sets the standard within your team. The ideal candidate will be experienced with both UI and backend services with an appetite to learn other technologies. This role reports to the Manager of Software Engineering for the team.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, lead, and be a part of the implementation of tools to support the building of 2XKO
- Own building end-to-end features in backend services and web-based tooling
- Lead implementation of our internal tools while being excited to flex into features for services, infrastructure, and Game Development or tooling with Unreal
- Collaborate effectively with art, design, and other disciplines within game development
- Drive and contribute to architecture requirements, technical design, and implementation for relevant systems to help shape the technical direction and standards for the team
- Mentor more junior engineers on the team
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience building large scale systems and services
- Professional experience in React based web frameworks and Typescript, with a deep understanding of front-end development best practices
- Willingness and ability to flex into other technologies (services, Unreal tools, infrastructure)
- Product sense, pragmatism, and customer empathy in making tech decisions
- BS in Computer Science, or proven understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working on a global scale online game or consumer product
- Experience with cloud computing and cloud technologies
- Experience with Golang, C++, Python, Unreal
- Experience with build pipelines including Jenkins, Build Graph, Horde
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker
