DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering organization is comprised of four primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE), Product Validation, and the Colorado Technology Center (CTC).
Validation Engineering:
The Validation Engineering Team is vital in delivering the best-in-class transit buses through rigorously testing Components, Systems and Vehicles to internal and external requirements. These efforts focus primarily on:
- Development of requirements, test procedures and reports
- Vehicle preparation and instrumentation
- Support testing efforts in the laboratory or the field
- Collecting and analyzing data using serial data, eDAQ and direct measurements
- Ensuring all Regulatory and Emissions requirements are met
- In house and supplier software is developed and tested in a Bench environment prior to release
- Finite Element Analysis and simulation
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Staff Engineer working within the Validation department, you will lead activities to create best practices, requirements and GILLIG Validation standards. You will also be leading the development of validation processes with the larger team. These processes and standards will ensure design teams have robust requirements established when developing designs and working with suppliers to support Design and Reliability initiatives. Technical areas of expertise should be multi-disciplined as such the successful candidate shall have focused expertise in one or more of the engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Software and controls) with a greater than general understanding of the others.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
- Act as the Technical and Subject Matter Expert within the validation team leading the implementation of new standards, best practices, continuous improvement activities, and quality initiatives within the work group and engineering teams
- Work cross functionally with enterprise stakeholders regarding new regulations, technical issues, and design solutions resulting in robust engineering practices that affect product design, production cycle-time & cost imperatives
- Lead activities within the work group to develop and deploy engineering standards for defining and managing requirements along with associated design verification (DV) and production validation (PV) processes for new components, systems, and vehicles
- Assess requirements for robustness and testability, champion validation processes through development and into standard practice
- Champion the development of new processes that align the traceability between requirements, test results, test reports and regulations
- Lead and support training and mentoring initiates within the work group and engineering teams
- Lead and guide root cause investigations where issues prove to be complex and extra support is required
- Champion and facilitate weekly scheduling meetings between engineering and production teams for alignment on upcoming testing needs and resource alignment, removing roadblocks when present
- Manage and maintain vehicle fidelity records for all engineering test assets
- Act independently with limited to no direct oversight, exercising independent judgement to achieve results
