Job Description
Summary: The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Controller. The Staff Accountant performs senior level complex accounting functions and reporting through the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Reports the organization's finances to management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization, tax strategies, and assumptions underlying budget forecasts. This position identifies process improvement opportunities and performs general accounting functions as assigned by management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Maintains responsibility for key Accounting functions (i.e. cash, investments, accounts receivable, prepaids, fixed assets, internally developed software, notes receivable, notes payable, leases, deferred rent, accounts payable, customer advances, accrued expenses, income taxes, rebates, payroll, etc.);
· Uses Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and controls that will prevent or reduce risk of potential misstatements or misappropriations;

Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings

Ensures timely reconciliation of all general ledger accounts that underlie the financial statements;
· Implement standard accounting, controls, analysis and reporting procedures. Prepare related correspondence to various state and federal entities;
· Maintains a monthly reforecast of revenue and expenses;

Maintains insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities;

Assists in the budgeting process and ensures that a timely and accurate budget is produced and approved by leadership. Prepares reports which summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations;

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written). Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university; plus two (2) to four (4) years related accounting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have evidence of advanced working knowledge of MAS500, or equivalent accounting software, and strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Advance analytic and statistic skills commensurate with the industry
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Work Location
This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters (or other company location) for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Periodic scheduled remote work may be permitted as allowed under the department’s policy and with management approval.
Working Hours
This is a non-exempt position requiring the incumbent to be able to work overtime from time to time in order to get the job done. Therefore, one must have the ability to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. This may be changed at any time to meet the needs of the business. The typical working hours for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Travel
This position requires no travel; however, attendance may be required at various local conferences and meetings.
