Reporting to the Senior Manager of Systems Engineering the Senior Network Engineer will maintain the resiliency and operational aspects of the Echo enterprise network. This highly skilled and experienced Senior Palo Alto Engineer role involves designing, implementing, and managing Palo Alto firewall solutions to ensure the security and stability of our enterprise network. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Palo Alto Networks technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for enhancing cybersecurity infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, configure, and deploy Palo Alto firewalls across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Terraform, and DNA Center) for network security management.
- Monitor, analyze, and respond to network and security incidents using Palo Alto tools (Panorama, WildFire, GlobalProtect).
- Manage and maintain firewall policies, security configurations, and access controls to protect network resources.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design secure network architectures, troubleshoot issues, and optimize network performance.
- Lead firewall migrations, upgrades, and other network security projects.
- Perform regular audits of firewall rules, VPNs, and security controls, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and company policies.
- Stay current on Palo Alto Networks' product updates, emerging threats, and cybersecurity trends to continuously improve security posture.
- Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior network engineers and other IT staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls and security platforms.
- Palo Alto Networks certifications such as PCNSE (Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer) required.
- Strong understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF) and security concepts (IPS/IDS, VPNs, SSL decryption, NAT).
- Experience with network monitoring, logging, and analysis tools (Splunk, Wireshark).
- Solid understanding of cloud security concepts and experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is a plus.
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust architecture and security frameworks (NIST, ISO).
