Position Summary

In this role at the Wilson, NC plant the Sr Environmental Engineer is responsible for assuring ongoing plant compliance with all State and Federal environmental regulations / permits, and corporate guidelines, including air permit; wastewater, storm water, SPCC Management; SWPPP Management; and Hazardous Waste Management, etc. This role will initiate and lead plans to ensure efficient and cost-effective strategies for environmental performance. The successful applicant will possess strong technical knowledge in environmental compliance, and manufacturing plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plant-wide disposal activities ranging from routine, known waste streams to accidental spills. 

  • Must understand plant processes and waste streams and devise safe and cost-effective ways for waste collection, recycle, and disposal.

  • Should have thorough knowledge of waste, chemistry, applicable waste disposal regulations pertaining to air emissions, wastewater discharges, solid waste and hazardous waste collection and transportation.

  • Respond to emergency situations such as spills and accidental discharges, calling for coordinating services of emergency, fire, and spill response teams.

  • Will work in conjunction with various departments to find out about their future production plans and any changes they may decide.

  • Management and maintenance of a 250-acre wildlife habitat. Duties include scheduling and leading activities and events at the habitat, organizing work to maintain habitat facilities, and community outreach about facilities available at the habitat. Obtain conservation certification for the habitat.

  • The plant must have uninterrupted function of the departments while ensuring environmental compliance is a primary task for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent work experience
