The Sr. Process Engineer – Snacks works closely with product development, Front of Funnel (FOF) associates and plant personnel to develop, test and implement processes to commercialize snack innovations which includes Cookies, Crackers, Salty, and Bread. They demonstrate the ability to specify and implement processing methods that enhance product quality, reduce cost, increase plant efficiency, and facilitate technology transfer.  

The Sr. Process Engineer – Snacks conducts process scale-up from pilot plant to manufacturing by designing experimental plans for feasibility, conducting pilot plant and manufacturing trials, and commissions, validates, and audits manufacturing units of operation.  They support or lead one or more projects of moderate complexity and technical risk.  

The Sr. Process Engineer – Snacks must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence decisions within the cross functional team (Marketing, Operations/Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Product Development and Package Development) and externally with suppliers and/or co-manufacturers.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Food Engineering or related field
  • 5 years of experience with a consumer-packaged goods background
     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with salty, cookie, cracker, bread, or other snacks unit operations is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills, strong attention to detail, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle and lead multiple projects at any given time in a team environment.
  • Ability to think beyond their own (R&D) function to consider the organization and its purpose holistically.
  • Passion for food and process development.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drives the development of innovative processes/technologies and commercialization of new product development initiatives. 
  • Leads moderately complex engineering projects/investigations, and/or supports complex projects.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and implements new or improved processes.
  • Integrates process expertise & knowledge into early product development stages 
  • Troubleshoots and identifies the root cause of production problems and implements effective solutions.
  • Documents test results & conclusions, process parameters, critical control points, process capability, and specifications.
  • Analyzes and trends data to ensure that manufacturing systems will reliably deliver high-quality products as designed within specification and cost. 
  • Commissions, validates, and leads the startup of new processes or equipment.

Job Complexity:

  • Project management; capable of managing several project/programs simultaneously
  • Ability to lay out and execute statistically valid equipment / product tests
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team
  • Effectively communicates at multiple levels within the organization and works well on cross-functional teams; possesses strong written, verbal, computer, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think beyond their own (R&D) function to consider the organization and its purpose holistically.

    Working Conditions:

    Anticipated travel of up to 50% including manufacturing centers and vendors

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between 

    $109,700-$157,700

    Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
