About the team and position
The Workers’ Compensation Claims Specialist provides crucial support of litigated and complex claims. This involves working closely with the Risk Management leadership team, claims adjusters, defense counsel and HR to support the timely and effective resolution of complex claims. The Specialist also plays an important part in ensuring Carvana’s internal business partners understand and have access to the company’s incident reporting protocols. Exceptional service from Carvana’s TPAs and other insurance service providers is crucial to the success of Carvana’s claims management program, and so the Specialist is key in the collection and aggregation of quality assurance assessment reviews that are completed by the Claim Coordinators for Risk Management leadership review.
What you’ll be doing
- Oversee a claims queue including litigated WC claims, as well as claims from highly litigious jurisdictions.
- Partner with HR to identify possible work accommodations for employees released to work with physical restrictions, and to status employees on leave within the HRIS.
- Work closely with TPA adjusters to support the litigated claim handling process by providing important details to support the adjusting process, including, but not limited to, documentation and discovery collection.
- Review case status updates from defense counsel, tracks case hearing and mediation, and other important dates within Carvana’s incident management system.
- Review reserves, settlement, and related requests and grants authority where appropriate;
- Assist leadership team with development of internal training materials for both the Corporate Insurance Team and internal departments.
- Meet regularly with new operations leaders to provide incident reporting training, and to create awareness of how the Corporate Insurance Department supports Carvana’s business operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you should know/have
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- 2+ of experience related to Workers’ Compensation claims or safety incidents in a corporate, HR, carrier or TPA setting.
- Effective dispute resolution skills; can navigate through difficult and escalated conversations. while maintaining composure, showing empathy and finding a positive resolution.
- Excellent communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills.
- Highly analytical, with an ability to identify important issues and propose solutions to such issues.
- Is great at communicating with all personality types from various groups, including external vendors, injured workers and internal peers in a professional and collaborative manner.
- Demonstrated work experience in a role requiring complex analysis.
- Highly organized – able to effectively track status claims and important deadlines.
- Proven ability to exercise prudent discretion of confidential and sensitive matters and personnel information.
- Expertise in Google suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
