Telephony and Network Engineer Consultant
We are seeking a sales focused telephony/network engineer to design, implement, maintain and support sip trunking connectivity for our predominantly contact center customers to connect to our partner’s voice network.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate deep technical knowledge of both TCP/IP networking and SIP, as well as be skilled in providing customer-facing presentations and generating low-level design documentation for individual customer solution designs.

Competencies:
Customer-facing - Present & lead discussions with customers, engaging in (often leading) telephony design workshops, preparing sales proposals, handling quotes and authoring statement of work (SOW) documentation.
Project Control - Responsible for actively working projects handling resource management through excellent task & time management skills
Partnership - Collaborating with partners to get the best possible outcome for Vonage and our customers, often leading the partner to accelerate workflow and process to meet timeframes
Infra/Networking - Understand and explain the requirements for all of the basics, IP subnetting, BGP, Single/Multi-mode fiber, as well as network resilience mechanisms like HSRP, VRRP, BGP AS-PATH, how prefix-lists work, how routes are redistributed. SD-WAN, traffic shaping, 802.1p/q, DSCP
VoIP/SIP/Telephony - Design, implement and advanced troubleshooting for SIP connectivity. Must have an in-depth knowledge of how SIP sessions work including SDP, SIP headers (path, etc), and response codes. They will also need to have a strong understanding of codecs, firewall (ALG, NAT) concepts and supporting real-time applications UDP (SIP media and WebRTC media). Additionally, Analyzing packet traces, configuring dial plans, design & implementation of MPLS
Communications - Good oral/written communication skills, both async and real-time collaboration and conferencing software will be used daily. Prompt and effective communications will be needed as you will be part of a global team.
Education and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in telecommunications, electronics engineering technology, computer science, information systems management, or a related field is desired
- 6 to 10 years of work experience in the IT industry with two or more years of VOIP/telephony expertise
- Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, PHP, and C++ is a plus
- Networking certifications: CCNA/CCNP/CCIE or JNCIE is a plus
- Knowledge on Cisco Systems (UCM, CUBE), Juniper Networks, and other telecom/network architecture
- Jira & Salesforce experience is a bonus
- Ability to produce industry grade network/voice solution diagrams (Visio, Lucid, etc)
- Knowledge of Cloud computing systems such as AWS and Azure
Additional responsibilities
- Ability to work autonomously and manage client expectations
- Serves as an escalated Tier 3 resource for customer incidents and work orders for network services and voice network infrastructure devices and maintaining SLAs
- Advising on customer installation of network/voice equipment
- Provide cross-training and mentoring across Tier 1/2 engineering teams
