Software Development Engineer II (Back-end)

Introduction to team
Our team is responsible for fast and reliable delivery of flights search experiences for our customers. We have a strong test-and-learn culture and we encourage everyone on our team to challenge assumptions and drive the product forward. Powering a global set of brands and pushing the frontiers of technology, you will be part of a team building a platform that provides the best traveler centric user experiences in flights ranking, relevance and filter domain.
Flight search is the ‘foot-in-the-door’ for EG flight shoppers and one of the major traveler acquisition and retention channels for EG serving more than 100M+ flight searches daily.

A Software Development Engineer II in an established performer who consistently applies software engineering principles to business contexts, leads small, well-defined projects and continues as a supporting player on complex projects, and actively identifies inefficiencies in existing systems.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 2+ years for Bachelor's OR 0-2 years for Master's
  • Developed software in a team environment of at least 5 engineers (agile, version control, etc.).
  • Built and maintained a software project/product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure.
  • Has strength in a language, moderate familiarity in other applicable languages.
  • Is familiar with a couple data stores or API access patterns and integration.
  • Has familiarity with associated technologies within their specialization as part of the wider ecosystem.
  • Understands of how projects fit together within their team.
  • Understands moderately complex systems.
  • Tests and monitors their own code.
  • Understands testing and monitoring tools.
  • Debugs applications.
  • Understands how team goals fit a business need.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems.
  • Proactively reach out to meet peers across environment and collaborates to solve problems.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area.
  • Seek knowledge from subject matter experts when needed.
  • Understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process.
  • Develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.
  • Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.
  • Apply knowledge of database design to solve data requirements.
  • Help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.
  • Think broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.
  • Complete tasks and/or provide data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology.
  • Apply formal training methods to current workload. Feels comfortable challenging authority/the status quo.
  • Report clearly on current work status.
  • Ask challenging questions when empowered to do so.
