Position Overview: The Software Developer III will be a key member of the Market Intelligence division, specifically within the GIS Mapping team. This role is designed for an experienced developer who will take on a leadership position in developing and maintaining sophisticated applications that enable the integration and visualization of spatial data for researchers. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with .NET, C#, SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Git, and GIS technologies, and will be responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions that enhance the accessibility and usability of spatial data.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Development:

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex web applications using .NET and C# to support the visualization and manipulation of GIS data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze requirements, translating them into comprehensive technical specifications and project plans.
     

Database Management:

  • Utilize SQL to architect, implement, and optimize database solutions for effective storage and retrieval of spatial data.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry standards within GIS applications.
     

Front-End Development:

  • Develop responsive and dynamic user interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, and React, ensuring an intuitive user experience that meets user needs.
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to create visually appealing and user-friendly applications, incorporating user feedback into design iterations.
     

Version Control and Collaboration:

  • Utilize Git for version control, managing code repositories, and fostering a collaborative development environment through regular code reviews and pair programming.
  • Champion agile development practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
     

GIS Integration:

  • Implement advanced GIS functionalities within applications, such as mapping, geocoding, and spatial analysis, to support complex research initiatives.
  • Stay current with advancements in GIS technologies and recommend improvements to enhance application performance and capabilities.
     

Testing and Quality Assurance:

  • Design and execute comprehensive unit tests, integration tests, and performance tests to ensure the reliability and scalability of applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a timely manner, maintaining high standards of software quality through continuous integration and deployment practices.
     

Documentation:

  • Create and maintain thorough technical documentation for applications, including design specifications, user manuals, and API documentation.
  • Document processes, workflows, and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and facilitate onboarding of new team members.
     

Mentorship and Leadership:

  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level developers, fostering a collaborative learning environment and promoting professional growth.
  • Lead initiatives to improve development processes, enhance team productivity, and implement best practices in software development.
     

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with stakeholders, including researchers and project managers, to understand their needs and provide technical solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Present technical concepts and project updates to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 5-7 years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on .NET, C#, SQL, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and GIS technologies.
    • Proven experience in developing applications that leverage spatial data for research or analysis, with a track record of successful project delivery.
       
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in .NET framework and C# for backend development, with a deep understanding of software design patterns and best practices.
    • Strong SQL skills for database management, including performance tuning and optimization techniques.
    • Extensive experience with front-end frameworks, particularly React, and solid understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript.
    • Familiarity with Git for version control and collaborative development workflows.
    • Knowledge of GIS concepts, tools, and technologies, with hands-on experience in spatial data visualization and analysis.
