ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Shift Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing an Engineering shift to deliver the required departmental KPIs, those being equipment availability, operational throughput and budgetary control.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Technical
To be accountable for:
- Taking responsibility for engineering effectiveness across the entire plant, focusing on decision making and prompt breakdown resolution.
- Understanding production processes and consultation with Production Managers to install contingency measures to maintain operational throughput.
- In conjunction with Planners and other task providers, seek to optimise all available opportunity and shift resource to complete work assignments, looking to reduce, to an effective level down day requirements
- Managing engineering costs and taking responsibility for budget control, with emphasis on control of spares
- Supporting continuous improvement and RCA activities, utilising your team to achieve resolution
Leadership
To be accountable for:
- Managing, motivating and engaging a team to deliver a valued service to their customers, promote both individually and as a team a "can do" attitude.
- Being part of a 24/7 Engineering team, cover for other Shift Managers in times of absence and to ensure that standards are followed consistently irrespective of shift
- Managing your shift to ensure that there are always sufficient numbers and required skills to maintain the required equipment effectiveness. This includes advance planning regarding holidays and any other planned absence, and reacting and managing any short notice absence
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...
You'll be experienced in leading an Engineering team, ideally within a food manufacturing operation, with exposure to budget management, and working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and health, safety, and food safety. We're also looking for...

- Computer Skills including MS Office and Teams

WHAT HOURS WILL I WORK?
Working 12-hour shifts, you'll be working to the following shift rota:
Week 1 - 5 days on, 4 days off
Week 2 - 5 days on, 5 days off
Week 3 - 4 days on, 5 days off
This pattern means you work 2 out of 4 weekends a month, and you only work 14 days in total, a month - this means you get more time to do what you love!
WHERE YOU'LL WORK?
You'll be based at our Whittlesey plant in Peterborough. If you've spotted our three wind turbines, then you'll know where we are! With about 350 employees on site, we're one of our largest plants across the GB business. Our Whittlesey plant is where we make our famous French Fries as well as our chilled products, such as our Shake Shake Fries.
