Job description

Vocera, now part of Stryker is looking for a Sr.Staff Wireless Engineer. This role will have broad architectural responsibilities working with senior Audio, Speech and RF domain counterparts to solve system level challenges for our current and future products. The successful candidate will have prior experience in wireless communications products on embedded Linux platform and demonstrated subject matter expertise in 802.11 protocols. This position will be reporting Sr. Manager R&D.

We are looking for an expert in the following areas:

  • IEEE 802.11 firmware implementation
  • Expertise with protocols and standards, including 802.11n/ac/ax
  • Enterprise security standards including EAP-TLS, EAP-Fast, PEAP
  • Mobility and Roaming (11r,11v,11k) experience
  • Rate adaptation algorithms
  • Power save modes
  • QOS implementation
  • Roaming and scanning optimization
  • Linux WPA supplicant modification
  • WiFi – BT coexistence
  • Bluetooth integration into embedded systems, including Headset and Hands-Free Bluetooth profiles
  • Experience integrating TCP/IP protocols including RTP, RTCP, SIP signaling, etc.
  • Experience with Network protocol analyzer tools like wireshark, Omnipeek
  • Experience with certifications such as FIPS 140-2, WiFi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG 
  • Solid foundation in embedded systems development
  • Working experience UWB is good to have.

What you will do:

  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of existing and emerging IEEE 802.11 wireless protocol / features, WLAN security, Bluetooth, and TCP/IP networking protocols to develop embedded devices firmware.
  • As a self-starter, conceptualize complex system problems, diagnose them and develop a scientific approach to resolving them methodically
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, possess resourcefulness, and complex problem-solving capability
  • Lead/guide a small team of in-house or contract engineers towards delivering on-time milestones
  • Show passion for end-to-end development of quality software products and desire to make a difference in the team
  • Great positive attitude, mentor for junior team members and team player overall
  • Work closely with team in an Agile/Scaled Agile environment

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 8+ years embedded Linux development experience specializing in 802.11 WLAN protocol and Bluetooth
  • Proficient in C programming for embedded devices
  • 8+ years embedded products / solutions development experience
  • 8+ years of experience and/or exposure to IEEE 802.11 Security mechanisms
  • 5+ years in overall TCP/IP networking protocols development background
  • Extensive experience developing Linux based multi-threaded real-time application
  • Experience in Linux network device drivers preferable
  • Experience in Bluetooth protocol and WiFi-Bluetooth coexistence preferable
  • Knowledge of at least one scripting language is preferable
