We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Accountant to support the launch of a new financial exchange with Designated Contract Market (DCM) and Derivatives Clearing Organization (DCO) components. This role will be instrumental in maintaining the financial integrity of exchange operations, ensuring compliance with CFTC regulations, and supporting key accounting, reconciliation, and reporting functions.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced startup environment. This position offers the opportunity to shape financial operations from the ground up and work closely with senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
• Prepare and post journal entries with proper supporting documentation.
• Assist in all aspects of month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Prepare Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and Balance Sheets for senior management.
• Ensure compliance with DCM/DCO financial reporting requirements and assist in regulatory filings.
Reconciliation & Transaction Management
• Perform bank account reconciliations and assist with bank deposits.
• Analyze credit card and payment transactions for accuracy and compliance.
• Conduct fraud checks and transaction reviews to identify discrepancies.
• Assist with accounts receivable, billing, and customer account reconciliation.
Compliance & Audit Support
• Assist in year-end audit preparation, working with the Controller and external auditors.
• Process and file Sales & Use Tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
• Maintain physical and digital financial records in compliance with internal controls.
Administrative & Customer Support
• Respond to customer inquiries via email and phone regarding billing and financial matters.
• Maintain organized documentation for financial transactions and reports.
• Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES 5 DAY A WEEK PRESENCE IN OFFICE.
• On-site position at our Washington, DC office.
• Regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
• Professional office environment with opportunities for growth in the financial exchange industry.
• Salary Range: $95k-$105/year.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in financial services, exchanges, clearinghouses, or fintech.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Power Query, Macros), Word, and Outlook.
• Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics SL or other financial accounting software.
• Knowledge of CFTC regulations and financial reporting for regulated markets.
• Prior experience supporting financial audits or regulatory filings.
• Understanding of DCM/DCO accounting and clearing operations.
