About Maddox + You:

You will be responsible for the development of services that power our internal business systems. You will collaborate with business stakeholders and other engineers to design and deliver software that enables us to streamline, track, and automate the purchase, sale, and reconditioning of electrical transformers. You will consume other internal and external services, provide backend APIs for frontend applications and other services, and flex your fullstack expertise.

As a member of a small development team, you will be expected to work with and support a variety of technologies whenever necessary. You will have the satisfaction of bringing order and efficiency to complex business domains, eliminating toil for your colleagues, and implementing technology patterns that promote a fast, flexible developer experience.

Your role will provide a healthy blend of backend, frontend development, and pattern-finding/infrastructure work. When developing infrastructure, you will be creating and enhancing scripts, frameworks, and patterns that enable the rapid scaffolding, interconnection, and deployment of services.

As a senior member of the development team, you will be expected to participate in conversations regarding technology & pattern selection, perform peer review, and offer mentorship to colleagues.

About Maddox’s Systems:

Maddox maintains a give-the-best/expect-the-best attitude. Our team is equipped with high-end laptops (mostly Apple, some Windows) with multiple external monitors. We have a stipend-supported BYOD mobile policy and our team uses a variety of both iOS and Android smartphones. We exclusively employ cloud-based solutions, enabling our team to work from anywhere. We prefer to use enterprise-supported open-source projects integrated with single-focus, best-in-class SaaS products, rather than rely on all-inclusive solutions with high vendor lock-in. Solutions we currently employ include: Google (Mail, Drive, Doc, Sheets), Odoo ERP, Slack, RingCentral, Pipedrive, Asana, QuickBooks Time, Ubiquiti.

Our current tech stack includes:

  • NextJS, NodeJS & Typescript - for custom integrations and web applications
  • React - for frontend
  • Shadcn - UI library
  • MySQL & Postgres on Google Cloud SQL - operational data store
  • Python  - for ERP & scripting
  • Legacy PHP - minimal development here
  • Docker
  • Terraform
  • Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, IAM, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, GCS, GCE, etc.)
  • Metabase - BI reporting / visualization

More about You:

  • You enjoy and are good at interacting with people and solving technical problems.
  • You love making businesses more efficient and scalable.
  • You are a fast learner and pick up new technologies and user/business contexts quickly.
  • You are focused and able to maintain excellent attention to detail.
  • You are a leader and comfortable mentoring and working with junior colleagues.
  • Your colleagues are located all across the country, so you need to be able to communicate clearly and succinctly via phone, email, and chat.
  • You are comfortable with abstract thinking and domain-driven design.
  • You prefer a healthy team vs. operating as a lone wolf.

Experience & Education:

We value experience, so if you have 10+ years of related experience, that’s great! We also love to invest in high-potential people, and are willing to invest in a promising early-career candidate with the right aptitude, attitude, and ambition. A technical or engineering degree is helpful, but not required.

Travel: This job can be performed from any Maddox office. Infrequent travel to different Maddox facilities around the United States may be required.

Pay: Starting $130k-$180k including bonus and benefits; commensurate to experience.

Pro Tip: We get a LOT of applicants, so if you want to stand out, write a few sentences telling us what stood out to you, and why you think you’d thrive in this particular opportunity.

What We Do

Maddox serves the commercial, industrial, utility, and renewables segments of the transformer market. We work with small operators, all the way up to the largest projects in the country. Our customers value speed, transparency, and an easy buying experience.

We sell, rent, repair and buy transformers.

With thousands of units in-stock and expedited production slots available, Maddox is dedicated to fast lead times and helping you get your project powered on as fast as possible. Our highly trained sales and customer service teams are dedicated to finding you the right transformer and delivering it to you at the right time.

We believe in not only providing a dependable product with outstanding customer service, but in conducting ourselves with character and integrity in all that we do. We believe that strong relationships and a good reputation are our most important assets.

Our experience has taught us that the best way to serve our customers is to deliberately concentrate our skills and expertise on a single line of products. From the very start, MIT was built with an exclusive focus on transformers and transformer-related equipment. We do one thing, and we do it very well.

We serve customers who value quick lead-times, extensive technical expertise, excellent customer service, and ease of doing business. Our customers are primarily industrial and commercial clients, contractors, and equipment dealers/distributors.
