Senior Software Development Engineer
Introduction to team
We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to join our Pricing team. We own Expedia’s prices for all our travel – hotels, cars, activities, flights, and more. We delight our Travellers with great prices for anything they wish, with a secure and personalised experience that drives customer satisfaction. We own the ingestion, computation, storage, publishing and error detection of 1+ trillion yearly prices, and serve as the company’s data authority for machine learning decisions. Our Pricing platform supports millions of daily Travellers in finding suitable travel products as quickly as possible, using Java, Scala, Kotlin, DynamoDB and Redis.
In this role, you will:

Own pricing together with your team, from design to operations

Partner with business, product and technology teams to define how our technology drives Traveler success and business outcomes

Design new pricing features that continue to delight our Travelers

Develop code, tests and infrastructure, and own operations and code reviews

Drive your team’s quality throughout design, code, tests and operations. Advocate for operational excellence (such as establishing metrics and programming for resiliency and scalability). Research, recommend and implement architectural and code improvements.

Interact with other domains (Inventory, Reservations, etc.) and recommend ways to interact with them to deliver Traveler value through designs and APIs.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to your team.

Communicate project risks and difficulties to your technical leadership and ensure code and program documentation are healthy.
Experience and qualifications:

Proven ability to identify business problems and design technical solutions that stand the test of time.

Proven ability to deliver high-quality code for distributed architectures that serve millions of requests per second.

Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent relevant professional experience.
-
8+ years of professional, post-college, software development experience with Java, Scala or a similar object-oriented language. Strong in multiple technologies, expert in one domain (e.g. Scala, Kotlin, Java).

6+ years of experience building large-scale cloud infrastructure applications.

Capable of defining complex technical projects, justify technology choices to stakeholders, and execute across multiple teams and functional areas.

Have excellent communication skills and work well in a team.

Proven ability to mentor engineers, guide others into designing high quality software, and establish and drive software operations metrics and practices (monitoring, alerts, etc.) at your team’s level.

Passionate about continuous improvement and innovation.
