Purpose

PerkinElmer is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Senior R&D Engineer to join our dynamic research and development team. As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will lead the development of cutting-edge technologies and solutions that drive innovation in life sciences, diagnostics, and applied markets. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and implement new products, systems, and processes while ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role requires a hands-on approach, leadership in problem-solving, and a passion for delivering high-impact solutions that meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of new products and systems, including concept generation, prototyping, and validation.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges in product development.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, including mechanical, electrical, or software components, to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory) to ensure successful product development and commercialization.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends, integrating them into existing or new products to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design documentation, and project updates to stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage project timelines, ensuring key milestones and deliverables are met within budget and on time.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols throughout the development process.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and failure analysis as required to optimize product development.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in R&D, product development, or related roles in the life sciences or medical device industry.
  • Proven track record in leading successful product development projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, product lifecycle management, and regulatory requirements (ISO, FDA, etc.).
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and analytically in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff.
