Under limited supervision, performs wireless network as well as network administration & planning for all aspects of IT wireless and network infrastructure - to include wireless network and network equipment, servers, and software applications. Monitor wireless network and network performance and diagnose severity of wireless network and WAN/LAN problems, quickly identify the problems, evaluate, isolate and make repairs with little or no assistance. Provides remote wireless network and network support for multiple hospitals located at various locations across the United States. Provides estimates of effort needed to complete projected wireless network and network projects. Patch and maintain currency of wireless network and network devices. Provides major incident response on a 24x7 on call rotational basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of wireless network and network administration duties including installations, debugging, maintenance, upgrades, and general support for Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, HP, Nortel, and Extreme network equipment.
- Perform work with WiFi 5 and 6, TCP/IP, Vlans, Ethernet, SONET, Radius, switching, routing and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), 802.1Q, and DNS.
- Implement and maintain Aruba Wireless Networks.
- Manage & troubleshoot wireless network, network, and Internet connectivity throughout the organization.
- Plans, recommends, and assists in the design of local or remote computer systems, oversees the day-to-day operation of the computer networks including Wireless, LAN-to-LAN/WAN, and SDWAN connectivity
- Provide work hour estimates for proposed wireless network and network support activities.
- Evaluate, test, and deploy all software and hardware upgrades to the wireless network and network infrastructure.
- Assist in the configuration and deployment of core and peripheral wireless network and network devices, which will require continuous learning of new devices.
- Proactive monitoring of all wireless network and network devices, services, and servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA’s.
- Collect and review wireless network and network utilization data for capacity and planning purposes
- Conduct security and device upgrade patching to wireless network and network devices.
- Assist in developing, implementing, testing, and maintaining disaster recovery plans.
- Work closely with the fellow tech team members to provide end-user support and issue resolution.
- Provide Telephony support for remote sites.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging tools and technologies.
- Research, evaluate and recommend technologies to support business requirements.
- Rigorously create and maintain documentation for all processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with and support the work of other staff engaged in similar functions
- Coordinate with the rest of the MIS team to meet the team objectives.
- Provide emergency 24 x 7 on-call support on a rotating basis.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent network and wireless work experience.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in wireless network and network Administration
- Minimum 7 years of experience working with wireless network and network equipment specifically, including maintenance and upgrades.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on wireless network administration with focus on wireless controllers, heat mapping, solutioning density and concentration of wireless access points to provide optimum coverage based on heat map survey results.
- Minimum 5 years hands on experience implementing and maintaining Aruba Wireless networks.
- Significant hands-on experience with and management of Cisco, Aruba, and Mellanox.
- Significant experience working with Linux and Windows servers in both physical and virtual environments.
- Significant hands-on experience with wireless network and network monitoring tools.
- Strong knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, Vlans, Ethernet, SONET, switching, routing and routing protocols (BGP/OSPF), 802.1Q, and DNS.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently.
- Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information.
- Nice to have is experience working with and supporting telephony systems.
